Kinsterna Hotel is an outstanding hotel, full of charm with genuine boutique quality and great attention to detail…
Kinsterna Hotel is an outstanding and totally unique boutique hotel. The design style totally captures the memories of its origin as a 17th century Byzantine influenced mansion, with wonderfully luxurious contemporary comforts. Perched on a hillside, surrounded by olive trees and its own vineyard, overlooking the enchanting medieval city of Monemvasia and through to the Aegean sea.
In the area you have a selection of superb “blue flag“ beaches, with the nearest being about 10 minutes drive. The location is at the extreme southern tip of the Peloponnese. The nearest airport is Kalamata, which is just under 3 hours drive. Athens airport is 4 hours.
Kinsterna Hotel has a total of 50 Rooms, Suites, Residences & Villas spread over the extensive estate. All are beautifully designed, with a strong emphasis on locally produced stone and fabrics.
All are highly individual, with the suites particularly suggested for those travelling as a family, or just requiring extra living space. Most of them have balcony or patio facing out towards the Aegean sea, the Medieval Castle, or the gardens. Within the accommodation you have an eclectic range of styles including main building rooms, atmospheric Byzantine Suites with their curved roof. You have Junior suites, Kinsterna Suites with integrated living space. There is a selection of Residences dotted around the grounds. They are even larger and can comfortably accommodate a family of four. And finally The Kinsterna Villa with two bedrooms and its own private plunge pool.
Several restaurant options dotted around the estate
Two swimming pools – one reserved for adults only and the other for families
Kids indoor playroom and playground with house tree
Attractive Hamman influenced spa
Host of eco influenced adventures, including bike hire to explore the hills and the castle rock of Monemvasia, and gentle treks around the countryside
Proximity of Monemvasia with its ancient walls and restaurant options
Several superb beach options within easy reach, with Simos and Elafonisos amongst the very best in the entire region
A library
A Wine Cellar, where private wine tasting sessions taking place
A Bar where you can enjoy a cocktail with herbs from the estate
Activities: Adopt an olive tree, wine tasting sessions, cooking lessons, horse riding, boat rides, bread making, visit the Kinsterna boutique & experience the art of weaving
Seasonal activities: Grape harvest, olive oil harvest, production of “tsipouro”, a fine spirit, soap making, horse and donkey rides around the estate.
Unique Seasonal Activities: Participating in the grape harvest (Late August to late September), Olive oil production (October to mid December) and soap making (Spring)
Special Places of Interest: Medieval castle town of Monemvasia, Gerakas port village, Koulentia village (also the village of the owner), Talanta watermill, Kastania cave, Ancient city of Pavlopetri, Petrified forest of Neapoli, Kyparissi & Geraki.
Kinsterna Hotel is an outstanding hotel, full of charm with a genuine boutique quality and great attention to detail.
The cuisine, and wines, totally capture the style, with much produced within the surrounding estate. We think it will appeal to adventurous travellers wanting to discover one of the lesser known and least developed parts of Greece, but in total style.
Car hire, whilst not essential, would be suggested as this will enable you to fully discover this attractive and historic area. Well behaved children are accepted year round, especially in the peak summer months, when the style becomes more of a family retreat. The Spring and Autumn months are more couples focused.
The Kinsterna Hotel is open most of the year, with the winter emphasis on cuisine and, of course, the spa. Kinsterna Hotel is an ideal retreat from the harsh northern European months, although the swimming pools might be more photographed than used. During these months many of the suites have their own fireplace, which is nicely romantic. The spring and early autumn months are naturally idyllic. The mid summer months is the time to experience the beaches and the incredible scenery.
Just an idea – As you will probably be travelling via Kalamata or Athens, why not consider a twin centre holiday of total contract. In Kalamata we would suggest The Romanos Costa Navarino Resort. For those with families the adjacent Westin Resort. In Athens our suggestion would be the historic and centrally located Grande Bretagne.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per-person, per-night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
