We would suggest staying in Phuket first and maybe use the hotel as a base to explore the island. Phuket seems developed at first glance but most of it is rather surprisingly rural and Phuket Town has a rather nice Sino-Portuguese atmosphere. Plus you have numerous small offshore islands such as Phi Phi and Phing Kan (James Bond), which can be visited on a day tour. The road transfer will take about 2 hours between the two resorts. Khao Lak is a much quieter option to Phuket which is part of the appeal.
Kalima Resort & Villas is an attractive superior first-class resort, popular with couples and families. Extensive facilities and attractive setting next to mangrove and rubber plantations and set aside river estuary. Man-made beach riverside and extensive option reached by a bridge where you will find sun loungers and seasonal bar.
Khao Lak is located about 70 minutes scenic drive north from Phuket Airport passing over the causeway bridge, a few small villages and a national forest on one side and the Andaman Sea on the other. The Village of Khao Lak is split into two areas, offering restaurants, shops and markets – about 8 minutes free shuttle several from the resort.
Kalima Resort & Villas has a total of 231 rooms, spread over the extensive garden in six low rise buildings.
All are spacious and contemporary, with some nice artefact reminders of the tin mining that used to dominate this area long before tourism arrived.
You have a choice of :
Deluxe Rooms with Pool or Garden View (43sqm)
Deluxe Rooms with pool access (45 sqm)
Grand Deluxe with pool or lake view (45 sqm)
Pool Suite (65sqm)
Two Bedroom Family Suite (75sqm)
One, Two and Three Bedroom Pool Villas (starting from 95sqm)
- Main swimming pool with a swim-up pool bar on one side
- Separate kids pool with slides and water features on the other side
- Several restaurants with differing cuisine styles and locations
- The immediate area is perfect for sightseeing by bicycle or kayak, both of which can be hired from the resort
- In Khao Lak, you will find numerous shops and restaurants, particularly in the winter season.
- The Khao Sok national park forms the backdrop to Khao Lak and can be visited on a full-day trek
- The Similian Islands are about 90 minutes offshore by speedboat and offer some of the very best snorkelling in the entire region
We rather like the low rise design style of Kalima Resort & Villas, the surrounding dense vegetation and the easy beach access.
The accommodation is attractive and nicely elegant. Good all-around facilities that will appeal to couples and families.
Khao Lak is generally at its best weather-wise November to April, when the days are usually bright, sunny and hot with low waves. The period May to October remains usually hot and sunny but interspersed with heavy showers and the red beach flag appears more frequently.

Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding airfare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
