Description & Location

Ambong-Ambong has two separate locations and styles, split between the luxurious Ambong Pool Villas and the Ambong Rainforest Retreat which offers an even more natural setting and deliberately rustic style.

The Ambong Rainforest Retreat is set back in the forest, a 10-minute walk down the hill to the nearest beach.

Ambong Pool Villas is located on a hillside, with spectacular sunrise or sunset views – walk to the beach is about 10 minutes. You can walk from the Rainforest Retreat to the villas in about 12 minutes, or a buggy operates on request. The two share some facilities including spa and dining location.

Both are located at the southern quiet end of Pantai Tengah. Langkawi is not exactly known for its nightlife but in this area, you have numerous dining options – some with evening entertainment – and shops.

The central and northern part of this area is seeing some high-rise development. It might be visible from the deck of Rimba Restaurant over the treetops but it is far away enough not to distract.

The airport is about 20 minutes drive away.

Note: The video below shows the setting nicely but is almost totally focused on the villas, less on the Rainforest Retreat.

Accommodation

Ambong Rainforest Retreat:
3 studio rooms, 3 Suites and 2 two-bedroom cottages. Deliberately rustic in style, comfortable yet with a real feeling of being at one with nature. The forest is literally surrounding you. They are reached by steep steps on a hillside, or a buggy will take you. You are asked to close and lock your doors to prevent wildlife from coming in.

Within Rainforest Retreat, you have a main swimming pool, restaurant and spa. As there are many steps linking the public/ private areas the property. It is not suitable for those with mobility issues and children under 12 years are not accepted.

Ambong Pool Villas:
8 one-bedroom and one three-bedroom pool villas. Each has its own swimming pool, private garden, kitchenette in & out living spaces. The villas are located on a hilltop surrounded by rainforest and facing either sunrise or sunset sea views. They are essentially geared towards romance and couple focused. You will still see and hear nature around you.

The villas are located just a short walk (2/3 minutes) from Rimba restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Superb sunset views from its rooftop called Rimba Sky, with some offshore islands clearly visible.

CHIC CHECK

Both properties at Ambong-Ambong have the same ownership and management, but slightly different attractions and price points, with the Pool Villas being more expensive. The Rainforest Retreat will appeal to those who want to see, feel and smell nature all around them.

You will probably pass dusky leaf monkeys on the way to your room, and you will certainly see them again swinging on the branches and maybe jumping on your roof.

Note: they might look cute but they are wild and you need to treat them with respect – feeding is not the best idea. Do not leave food or clothing in unattended open spaces and ensure doors /windows are locked, not just closed.

Pool Villas offers more obvious luxury and privacy, yet still in close contact with nature.

The nearest beach is about 10 minutes walk away, next to the rather selfie-influenced Dash Hotel and Beach Club.

David from Chic stayed here in June and would be delighted to discuss in greater detail.

COVID-19 - Updated Information – March 2023.

Virtually all countries worldwide have relaxed their protocols on Covid and there are very few restrictions. However, most countries review this on a month-by-month basis and will take immediate action should cases return or increase.

As a general statement, we would say travel is back to about 90% of its 2019 pre-covid levels – although with maybe less staff than before. This can particularly apply to airports with check-in teams and baggage handlers, and also in hotels. If you are a long-time repeat visitor to a specific hotel it is quite possible you might know your way around the property better than the newly appointed staff – smile and maybe even try to assist!

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.

For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary IslandsCaribbeanArabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.

*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
