Soneva Fushi Maldives offers easygoing elegance, highly personalised attention, and lush tropical greenery.
Soneva Fushi Maldives is the original “No News, No Shoes“ hide-and-chic resort in the Maldives—frequently copied but never bettered. A luxurious, deliberately understated resort. Wonderfully natural elegance.
It is a welcome contrast to the many ultra-contemporary, oh so painfully stylish resorts that have sprung up in the Maldives. Here at Soneva, simplicity is part of the attraction. When Leonardo da Vinci said simplicity is the ultimate sophistication all those centuries ago, he could have had Soneva Fushi in mind!
Soneva Fushi expertly blends opulence, eco-friendliness, and a profound bond with nature, establishing itself as an exceptional destination for travellers in search of a unique and transformative experience.
It is located in the Baa Atoll, 30 minutes by seaplane (daylight hours only) from Male. One of the biggest islands, measuring 1400 metres in length and 400 metres in width—beautifully tropical with abundant greenery and soft sandy shores.
The Maldives government has introduced an environmental tax of US$12 per person daily. It is a government directive; this has to be paid directly to the resort. It will be shown as a separate item on your incidental invoice.
Soneva Fushi Maldives has 88 private villas, either nestled in a verdant expanse of rich jungle leading to the beachfront or a selection of incredible over-water suites.
The villas are constructed using eco-friendly materials and blend seamlessly into the natural environment, offering a rustic yet elegant aesthetic. Many villas feature outdoor bathrooms set in lush gardens for a unique connection to nature.
All feature vast living spaces and views towards the sunrise or sunset. Most enjoy their own pools, as well as being just steps from the beach.
Many villas have slides that go directly into the ocean, adding a playful touch to luxury living.
All Soneva Fushi villas come with a personal Barefoot Butler Service 24/7. You are assigned a “Mr or Ms Friday” to cater to your needs.
The eight water reserves are among the largest of their kind in the world, featuring a terrace with a private pool and a water slide into the ocean.
The villas range from one bedroom up to six bedrooms; plus, there is even one villa with nine bedrooms.
From late December the villas have new descriptions. See detailed listing below.
This can be particularly important if you are one of the many repeat travellers to Soneva Fushi. It is just a name change; the facilities remain as before. The map on this page reflects the current 2026 names.

Soneva in Aqua: A new concept by Soneva Fushi, Maldives, where an ultra-indulgent yacht can be chartered for the day or overnight cruises from one to seven days. This would be a perfect way to explore the lesser-known atolls within the Maldives
Each side of the island has its own preference based on individual requirements.
Sunset side: For snorkelers:
This side has three house reef access points, and dolphins are more likely to be spotted in the channel. On this side of the island, it is possible to see the neighbouring island, Eydhafushi, approximately 650 metres away. Guests who want more privacy may consider staying on the sunrise side of the island.
Sunrise side: For privacy:
Enjoy virtually unimpeded views out to sea, as Maalhos, the closest neighbouring island on this side, is just a speck on the horizon. This side is perfect for early risers who want to enjoy the morning tranquillity.
The island owners are proudly conservation-focused, so Soneva Fushi is much more tropical than most of the other resorts, with an abundance of coconut trees on the sea edge.
Note: As most villas have easy pool access, you need to be sensibly cautious with younger children.
Soneva Fushi Maldives is one of the Maldivian resorts that has incredible client loyalty year after year.
They love the stripped-down, easy-going elegance, the highly personalized attention, and the lush tropical greenery (rather unusual in the Maldives). The resort’s wonderfully simple, rustic elegance stands in stark contrast to the flat-pack ubiquitous luxury prevalent in many of the newer resorts. It is expensive, no doubt, but that almost adds to the appeal. The clientele are discreetly and proudly high-end, originating from the four corners of the globe, all mixing together rather well.
“No shoes, no news” is much more than a marketing slogan here. They actually ask you to abandon your shoes upon arrival! Simple, laid-back luxury for the mind, soul, and maybe even the feet!
The in-room TVs are essentially for films/documentaries rather than 24-hour news depression!
There is no main swimming pool, but most of the higher-grade accommodations have their own. Plus, of course, the sea is wonderful.
Marie-Helene (MH) and Dominic from Chic stayed here in spring 2025 and would be delighted to discuss the resort in further detail. MH has stayed here several times and rather enjoys it.
See our separate feature on the Soneva Secrets Resort. This can be easily combined with your stay at Soneva Fushi; they are about 40 minutes apart by seaplane.
