Buahan is an adult-only, totally unique, jungle retreat.
Buahan is one of the unique new retreats in the entire region. It is luxurious but in a simple, less is more, completely open, natural style.
The emphasis here is the scenery. The local influences in every aspect, the complete seclusion. It is a retreat for the senses in every way. Welcome to the Balinese Jungle, with views of the seven peak mountains and the fast flowing Ayung river below.
Located close to the small village of Buahan. 40 minutes’ drive north of Ubud and about 2 hours scenic drive* from the international airport.
Buahan has 16 individual villas.
Located in the Rainforest, highest up the mountain, the Valley, which is mid-level and allows (relatively) easy access to the public areas, and then Riverside.
Each villa is 165 sqm with private pool, gazebo, open deck and living area and en suite bathroom.
They have been designed to allow 180 degree open plan views, no doors & no walls. That is an essential part of the attraction.
- Main swimming pool
- Restaurant & bar with locally sourced ingredients a priority
- Elevated spa where the views can compete with the treatments
- Daily activities, including an escorted trek to the nearby waterfall
- Funicular stair-lift option from the riverside to the peak with stops en route
- Regular road shuttle to/from Ubud
Buahan is a retreat from the conventional in every sense.
It will appeal probably to the affluent minority who deliberately want to shun conventional ornate luxury for at least a few days.
You need to be comfortable with the realities of living side by side with nature. Most of the pathways are stone slabs with quite a few steps, so it may not be ideal for those with mobility issues.
Both Marie-Helene and David from Chic happily spent time at the retreat in November 2022 and would be delighted to discuss in additional detail, based on your specific requirements .
*We suggest the transfers are arranged in daylight hours, so you can fully enjoy the varied scenery en route and appreciate the stunning “Welcome“ views.

+ About Bali – Indonesia
In our view, Bali Indonesia is one of the most romantic islands in the world. Add instant culture & an almost spiritual atmosphere. Despite increased tourism, once away from the busier resorts you still have a wonderful sense of tradition.

Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding airfare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, some hotels may have changed their facilities. Standard descriptions like distance from airport or town remain consistent as does the overall resort style. However, the number of restaurants, swimming pools, if more than one, are by example flexible and can change depending on occupancy and circumstances. Spa facilities, in particular, may be changed depending on local and international suggestions.
If your holiday decision is based on any specific facility please let us know at the time of booking so we can ascertain availability from the hotel. Please note, such information may be accurate at the time given but could be subject to change. In these times it would be prudent to be open-minded and flexible on such matters.
The situation on destination entry seems to vary month to month, or in some cases week to week or even day-to-day. For updated information please refer to the UK Government travel advice https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. This will provide you with information on entry requirements including COVID-19 testing and any quarantine stipulations, especially on return to the UK. As you will know this information is constantly changing, frequently at short notice as evidenced by our own Government actions.
