Secret Bay Dominica is a real hide and chic retreat.
Eco influenced in its design and concept, perfectly at one with the natural beauty of Dominica. Perched dramatically on a clifftop with incredible views of the bay below and the neighbouring islands on the horizon. Just 2 miles south of the little town of Portsmouth on the North West coast. The Douglas Charles airport is 45 minutes scenic drive across the north coast and the island capital, Roseau, with its French Creole ramshackle charm, is 50 minutes down the west coast.
The property is unique in its diversity: two swimming beaches – one reached by steep pathway the other by a 5-minute kayak ride, a river and a sea cave are all close by.
Secret Bay is a proud member of Relais & Chateaux, an association of individually owned luxury hotels and restaurants.

The luxury of Secret Bay comes in the incredible setting and the sense of true “old-time“ Caribbean style with spacious, totally contemporary, chic flourishes.
It will appeal to those maybe who have visited the region before and/or are looking for something totally different and unique.
The Secret Bay focus is very much on tropical romance or will attract families with older more independent children. ( Given the open-sided cliff top location and with each villa having its own swimming pool you will be asked to sign insurance waiver if you travel with children under 18 years )
Secret Bay is award-winning internationally & regionally for its total innovation and uncompromising desire to provide something that is naturally luxurious in the truest sense.
Something that you might want to consider would be a twin-centre combination with Antigua where we would suggest Carlisle Bay or with Barbados where we would suggest The Sandpiper. Or maybe in St Lucia where a combination with Jade Mountain Resort would be just incredible – the Caribbean at its scenic best.
Dominica has a simple, unhurried style and seems content to allow life to move at a more natural pace which rarely exceeds first gear – Barbados it is not! It’s lush, totally tropical and mountainous with fast-flowing rivers and waterfalls. There are some volcanic sand beaches, dense forests, a few tarmac coastal roads and many country paths & dirt tracks. Small villages dominated by churches and rum shops!
Car hire will assist your flexibility to explore the island. Again, the Secret Bay team will be delighted to assist you with any island tours you require and have access to some of the best guides on the island.
There are no intercontinental flights into Dominica. That can be seen as either a plus or a minus, depending on your view, but to the curious traveller, that is all part of the adventure. Connections are made either via Barbados or Antigua if you are travelling from the UK. Then a 50-minute flight onto Dominica. Or you can travel by high-speed ferry from St Lucia (4 hours).
You do need to be comfortable with the realities of living side by side with nature and be reasonably mobile, as there are steps. You will need an adventurous disposition, both physically and mentally.
At Chic, we have seen Secret Bay develop from a dream to the drawing board to reality – twice as it was almost destroyed in hurricane Maria on 2017. The dream never faded and it reopened in November 2018, better than ever.
Speak to Marie-Helene at Chic as she has a special affinity with both the hotel and Dominica.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers.
Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
