Fort Young Hotel is regarded as the most established hotel on the island, with an attractive location and good facilities.
The Fort Young Hotel is built on the site of the original French fort, dating back to 1720. The Fort Young Hotel is located on the edge of the capital, Roseau, directly facing the waterfront.
The international airport at Melville Hall is a scenic cross-island transfer of 70 minutes. The Ferry Terminal with boats from the neighbouring French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, as well as St Lucia, is 3 minutes by taxi or a 5-minute walk.
Fort Young Hotel has 32 rooms and suites all sea-facing with balcony.
We particularly suggest the oceanfront rooms and suites for their extra space, style, and location.
The hotel also offers a Dominican version of Island All-Inclusive with some meals, drinks, and island tours included. There are several options – ask us for details so we can suggest the most suitable for your stay based on your requirements. The tours are designed to show you the simple natural beauty of the island with its high mountains, waterfalls and rivers, dense forests, and charming ramshackle villages.
Please Note: A new extension of 4 floors is under construction. This is to the back of the hotel on the left side. It is unlikely any work will be audible whilst in your room or balcony but this will be noticeable from several public areas such as the pool. Work is expected to run through to the end of 2022. Ask us for updates.
Fort Young Hotel’s activities desk can easily arrange a selection of eco-adventures including whale & dolphin watching, hiking tours, ranging from the gentle to the demanding!
Sea swimming roped-off area accessed by steps from the jetty.
Car hire is suggested as this will really allow you to discover the island, and particularly visiting the wild Atlantic coast and Carib Reserve. Roseau, the capital, has a ramshackle charm and offers several restaurant options. It is easy to explore with its lively fruit and vegetable market, cobbled streets and rather colourful, frequently crumbling, French- Creole-influenced buildings.
Fort Young Hotel is regarded as the most established hotel on the island, with an attractive location and good facilities with a great sense of history.
The older rooms in the original section of the hotel are perfectly adequate, but for greater comfort, go for the newer, larger oceanfront with the waves literally lapping below you – plus good views of luxury cruise ships that will berth just in front of the hotel several days weekly. During these few hours, the island is almost busy and many clients make the waterfront bar at the Fort Young their choice to sample a local rum punch.
Dominica attracts those who are independent, adventurous, and curious, and offers a very different experience from the usual sun and sand holiday offered by the more developed islands. The pleasures here are simple, relaxed, and easy-going; It is called the Nature island, with the focus on mountains, rivers, volcanoes, and forests. It is not the place for the self-important and ultra-demanding shopaholics, although the Colombian Emerald shop within the hotel can be awfully tempting. It is one of the largest islands in the Caribbean, and least populated. Dominicans tend to also live longer which might be a testimony to their diet or their deliberate slow-paced lifestyle.
There are no direct flights from the UK into Dominica which we think rather adds to the escapist attraction. There are improved air links with Antigua, Barbados, and St Lucia so twin or triple island combinations are easy to arrange.

COVID-19 - Updated Information – March 2023.
Virtually all countries worldwide have relaxed their protocols on Covid and there are very few restrictions. However, most countries review this on a month-by-month basis and will take immediate action should cases return or increase.
As a general statement, we would say travel is back to about 90% of its 2019 pre-covid levels – although with maybe less staff than before. This can particularly apply to airports with check-in teams and baggage handlers, and also in hotels. If you are a long-time repeat visitor to a specific hotel it is quite possible you might know your way around the property better than the newly appointed staff – smile and maybe even try to assist!

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
