Pimalai Resort and Spa has good all-around appeal for couples and families, an attractive and expansive beach front and excellent facilities.
Pimalai Resort and Spa is a superb resort hotel, in a quiet setting, overlooking an expansive bay, with a dense tropical forest backdrop. Incredible beach, one of the very best in the region. You travel from Krabi airport for 40 minutes to the ferry point, and then by speedboat for another 35 minutes (during the period May to October, when sea swells can be higher, the transfer might be by road throughout taking about 2 hours).
Pimalai Resort and Spa consists of 121 deluxe rooms, suites and villas, all dotted around the hillside.
The Deluxe rooms are in small two storey clusters, with sea facing balconies.
Deluxe Bayfront Rooms are closer to the beach and have an integrated living space. Probably the most sought after accommodation, so early booking essential.
You also have a selection of One and Two Bedroom Beachfront Villas either with shared pool.
Elevated high above the main resort, you have a selection of stunning One, Two and Three Bedroom Villas, all with their own infinity swimming pools. Extremely spacious with generous indoor and outdoor living room and spectacular views.
A buggy service links the villas to the main hotel.
Facilities are extensive and include several specialty restaurants in differing locations throughout the resort, main beachfront swimming pool plus an additional elevated swimming pool for villa guests only, spa, comprehensive sports centre with tennis courts, gym and jogging tracks. A range of non-motorised water sports can be arranged, subject to weather conditions. Dive centre (usually open November to May).
Koh Lanta is one of the most scenic of the islands, with a number of eco influenced adventure tour options arranged through the resort, including jungle walks and elephant trekking.
Koh Lanta is not known for its nightlife and its main attraction is the gentle charm, the easygoing pace and the stunning natural attractions both on land and at sea. However, close to the Pimalai there are a couple of simple restaurant options and a few totally authentic atmospheric ‘Led Zeppelin’ influenced, beanie cushioned bars which make for a fun retro style night out. Then the next day, soothe those aching limbs with some deserved pampering in the spa!
Good all round appeal for couples and families, with an attractive and expansive beach front and excellent facilities. For spectacular views and elegance, the villas are highly recommended, but even the deluxe rooms – all of which have been totally enhanced in the last couple of years – are very attractive and conveniently positioned.
As there are a number of steps throughout Pimalai Resort and Spa, it would not be suitable for those with mobility problems.
The management team, despite being mainly French, are excellent, extremely proactive! Hehe
” I saw the resort in June 2019. I had seen it several times previously but the recent enhancements are really very impressive. The rooms are much brighter, the restaurant options so good both in cuisine style and varying locations with some spectacular views. My favorites would be the new beach bar & feet in the sand Rak Talay restaurant or the elevated Seven Seas for its romance and views. Plus sporting facilities include bike hire, tennis courts, and seasonal water sports. And incredible beach ” – David, Chic Locations.

David Revisits Thailand 2022
I last visited Thailand in December 2021. At the time travel was limited and you had to take a test before and on arrival. This time it was much more open. I arrived in Phuket, showed my Thailand pass and vaccination certificates, and collected my case – all within 45 minutes.

Although the Sandbox scheme has improved week on week since its introduction in early July, and most of the southern resorts have a high vaccination rate and low cases, the UK Government has chosen to look at the entire country and made it all on the UK Red traffic light NO GO area.

COVID-19 - Updated Information – March 2023.
Virtually all countries worldwide have relaxed their protocols on Covid and there are very few restrictions. However, most countries review this on a month-by-month basis and will take immediate action should cases return or increase.
As a general statement, we would say travel is back to about 90% of its 2019 pre-covid levels – although with maybe less staff than before. This can particularly apply to airports with check-in teams and baggage handlers, and also in hotels. If you are a long-time repeat visitor to a specific hotel it is quite possible you might know your way around the property better than the newly appointed staff – smile and maybe even try to assist!

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
