The Ritz-Carlton, Abama is an impressive resort with superb facilities for all the family…
The Ritz-Carlton, Abama Resort is located on the sunnier west coast, close to the village of Playa San Juan. 30 minutes drive from the south Tenerife airport.
Instantly luxurious, designed in a red hue Moorish style. Set amongst extensive tropical gardens, leading down to its own golden sand cove beach (funicular lift takes you down the final stage to beach level).
The Ritz-Carlton, Abama Resort has a total of 315 rooms and suites in the main Citadel building.
All spacious with a choice of tropical garden views or sea facing aspect, albeit from a distance. Each room is tastefully decorated, in a bright, but restful modern style.
For those travelling with children, we particularly suggest the extra comfort and space offered by the Junior Suites with their integrated living space. The hotel also has numerous interconnecting Deluxe Rooms. These can usually be confirmed at time of booking, although early booking is suggested – especially at peak school holiday periods.
In addition there are 144 Villa Rooms and Suites. Set in 4 rows in the garden leading down towards the sea, with each row having its own shared swimming pool.
The Adults Only Villas are in a separate exclusive terrace area reserved for adults only – no children under 18 – with their own shared swimming pool and your own buggy to drive around the resort.
They include soft drinks/beer during the day, up to 4 snack food presentations around the pool.
- Facilities include numerous speciality restaurants in differing
- locations spread throughout the resort (see note below)
- Several swimming pools – Some are adult only
- Excellent sporting facilities, including tennis
- Championship golf course.
- The kids club caters for children from 4-12 years
- Freelance babysitting can be arranged, at extra cost
- Children under 4 years can go into the club if accompanied by adult or babysitter
The Ritz-Carlton, Abama Resort has excellent facilities, spread over the extensive 400-acre estate. The resort is in a tropical estate, fringed by banana plantations. An impressive resort, with superb facilities for all the family.
The resort has fantastic leisure facilities with a championship golf course adjacent and an extremely well-equipped tennis club. Lessons for both can be prearranged on request. There is a small village with some restaurant options within a 10-minute drive, or the more developed areas of south Tenerife are just 15 minutes away.
There is quite a steep hill leading down from the main hotel past the manicured gardens to the beach cliff top, but for the less energetic a regular buggy service (complimentary only for villa suites) or resort train operates on demand.
When half-board has been pre-booked, this will be limited to a few of the restaurants with credit for dining in the others, should you desire. A few of the restaurants will be adult-only and/or require those wishing to dine as a family to eat earlier.
Tenerife is an interesting island to explore, with vastly different scenic attractions, so we would suggest car hire to add to your flexibility.

During the spring months and into mid-summer (2023) the resort will be renovating some sections of the property. This will particularly be around the villa section. Please ask us for an update at time of enquiry. Also, note resort has a complete buy-out 17 June / 11 July when no other guests are accepted.

Spain attracts the most British tourists, as well as a huge number who have decided to make Spain their permanent residence. It is a country with fantastic contrasts and maybe a few contradictions, which make it even more interesting. Openly hedonistic in some areas, proudly conservative in others. Wonderful culture and lifestyle.
From the UK to mainland Spain and Mallorca is just over 2 hours, and to the Canary Islands about 4 hours.

COVID-19 - Updated Information – March 2023.
Virtually all countries worldwide have relaxed their protocols on Covid and there are very few restrictions. However, most countries review this on a month-by-month basis and will take immediate action should cases return or increase.
As a general statement, we would say travel is back to about 90% of its 2019 pre-covid levels – although with maybe less staff than before. This can particularly apply to airports with check-in teams and baggage handlers, and also in hotels. If you are a long-time repeat visitor to a specific hotel it is quite possible you might know your way around the property better than the newly appointed staff – smile and maybe even try to assist!

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
