Anantara Golden Triangle Resort is incredible in every way – especially location & experiences
The Anantara Golden Triangle Resort is a real experience in every sense. Incredible scenery, thrilling eco-adventures, and exploration.
Home to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, where guests share the property with rescued elephants that roam freely around the grounds.
It is located in the extreme north of Thailand, where it borders Laos and Myanmar (Burma), overlooking the mighty Mekong River. 45-minute drive from Chiang Rai city and airport.
The resort operates on an all-inclusive basis. See facilities below.
Anantara Golden Triangle Resort has a total of 63 Deluxe Rooms and Suites, ranging from 40 to 120 sqm.
All rooms and suites have been recently further enhanced, combining more contemporary options while still retaining a proud Thai theme. All face out towards Laos and Myanmar, hence their title, Three Country View.
The Deluxe Rooms are spacious, with a balcony, and would be suitable for two adults and one child on a sofa bed.
In addition, there are some larger Junior Suite Family Rooms and One Bedroom Suites.
Recently added have been a few totally unique Pod Rooms, shaped like a transparent bubble. These allow you to sleep up close and personal with the elephants but in supreme comfort whilst enjoying the sights of nature that will surround you. These will be at extra cost, as you will retain your room in the main hotel.
In addition, there are now a couple of Mekong Explorer tent-style rooms located in a separate section with impressive views over the valley below. These can be booked for 3 nights plus.
- Cooking school
- Anantara Spa built into the hillside with treatment rooms overlooking the jungle
- Infinity pool overlooking the Mekong
- Fitness area with Muay Thai boxing ring and instruction
- Meditation sessions with monks from nearby temples
- Motorbike sidecar jungle pathway discovery
- Newly introduced sky bike zip wire
- Up-close and personal experiences with elephants and private tours to the various regional hill tribes can all be easily arranged
The all-inclusive plan includes:
- Breakfast, lunch & dinner to be taken at Sala Mae Nam restaurant, non-alcoholic drinks
- And one of the following for each night stayed:
- Elephant Experience
- Cooking School
- Spice Spoons
- 60-minute spa
- 60-minute join-in yoga.
Beyond the Resort
- The resort can arrange several Mekong boat trips.
- Chiang Saen (15 minutes), where you can explore ancient ruins and a surprisingly good local market
- Hall of Opium Museum (5 minutes): A fascinating and sobering look at the region’s opium trade history, including the Colonial British involvement in an attempt to profit and pacify!
- The resort can arrange visits to the nearby Akha and Yao hill tribe communities
- If you are staying 3 nights or more, we would suggest allowing time to visit Chiang Rai with its market and selection of attractive & ornate temples, including the much-discussed and photographed White Temple with its unique and deliberately quirky in-and-out design features
Anantara Golden Triangle Resort’s luxury comes in the incredible setting and the immersive experiences, as well as the accommodation, plus the unique dining options now available.
The elephant camp is, of course, one of the main attractions. The Walking with Giants Tour is just magical and very unique. You can arrange to get up early and go to the camp for a real up-close and personal experience.
The early morning misty views are incredible, with Myanmar below you and Laos just beyond.
The weather in this part of Thailand can see cool mornings and evenings, so a warm jumper might be required, especially in the months of November through March, when it can even get chilly up here. March to May is the hottest and most humid time. June to October can be the wettest – and muddiest – although usually in short, heavy showers.
Anantara has an equally attractive hotel in Chiang Mai located on the riverside. And in Bangkok, the Anantara Siam can make a luxurious and ideal base for discovering the delights of the city. Plus numerous hotels in the southern resort islands of Phuket, Samui and our particular favourite, Rasananda on Koh Phangan (40 minutes – and 40 years – by speedboat from Samui), which would make an incredible combination with Golden Triangle. Ask us for combination ideas.

+ About Chiang Mai & North Thailand
Chiang Mai is the 2nd city of Thailand but is just a fraction of the size of Bangkok. It is compact, bustling and despite some recent development, it retains a market town atmosphere. It is the main gateway to the region. Flying time from Bangkok 60 minutes. Chiang Rai is in the extreme northeast of the country, even smaller and more traditional, with the focal point of interest being the Golden Triangle, the area where Thailand, Laos and Burma (Myanmar) all meet.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per-person, per-night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
