Avani+ Khao Lak Resort is a really good, family-focused “total resort”.
The resort is a relatively new addition to the Khao Lak hotel scene. Avani+ Khao Lak Resort is geared to couples and families, particularly multi-generational ones, as there is literally something for everyone.
Numerous trees and tropical greenery surround the resort, leading down to an expansive beachfront. It is a large hotel but has been sensitively designed, retaining much of the foliage as a possible buffer to the occasional ravages of the sea.
It is quietly located about 15 minutes north of Khao Lak village on a superb beach. The resort offers a village shuttle several times weekly.
Phuket Airport is a scenic 75-minute drive away.
Avani+ Khao Lak Resort has 288 rooms and suites, essentially split into two sections.
The rooms are within the 6-storey main building, with an option of premier and deluxe rooms (35 sqm) on higher floors or deluxe step-down pool access.
Set back in the gardens, the main building is approximately a 5-minute stroll from the beach. The exterior might seem more city style, but once inside, the rooms are brightly decorated in a relaxed resort manner.
The Family Suites are set within the tropical gardens, closer to the beach and in clusters on the ground and first floors. They are obviously considerably larger, starting at 106 sqm. They all have two bedrooms (king and twin) plus a separate living room and kitchenette for preparation of light snacks.
Those on the upper floor have a balcony, with the ground floor having a patio and their own private pool at 165sqm.
- Numerous swimming pools – some family-focused, others more relaxing
- Several restaurants offering different cuisine styles and locations
- Waterpark with slides and fountains
- Kids’ and teens’ club with games arcade
- Garden walks including a little farm
- A selection of non-motorised water sports is usually available November to April, weather dependent
- Tennis Court
- Putting green
- There is an indoor and outdoor sports area that offers Muay Thai classes and rock wall climbing
- There are numerous dining options within the resort, plus some local options on the beach from November to April
David from Chic visited the resort in spring 2025. He felt the main building exterior looked more city than resort but liked the interiors and, of course, the pricing.
He was really taken with the two-bedroom suites in all aspects – design & location in particular. David also liked the extensive facilities and grounds, which were almost self-contained, and much of the original site remains, as so few trees were removed during construction.
The beach is regarded as one of the very best in the area, as it is expansive and generally quiet. He rates the hotel as a good first class, with particular appeal to families.
He visited several other family-focused resorts in the Khao Lak area but declined them, as he felt their locations were rather bland, busy, and non-tropical.
Khao Lak is generally at its best weather-wise from November to April, when the days are usually bright and sunny and the sea is calm. May to October has more rain and would be best described as “red flag” season—rates drop as the sea gets higher, although the sun still shines most days.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per-person, per-night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
