Green Watch Excitement in the Caribbean

As of the 01st July 2021, many islands in the Caribbean have been placed on the Green Watch list.

Essentially this means the islands will have their vaccination success monitored by the UK Government on a weekly basis and if all continues to go to plan it will continue to be on the Green list which means there is no quarantine required on return to the UK.

As we have seen with Portugal recently, our Government can change its mind at short notice, but the move to open up more islands in the Caribbean is very welcome.

Several islands are listed but relevant to our selection at Chic Locations are:

Antigua, BarbadosDominica and Grenada.

Saint Lucia has not been included on the list this time but maybe at the next review.

We have already increased our selection of hotels on each island but just for ease of reference:

Antigua – Carlisle Bay

Barbados – Coral Reef, Sandpiper, St Peter’s Bay, all on the west coast and the attractive All-Inclusive Sea Breeze on the south shore.

Dominica – Fort Young and Secret Bay

Grenada – Calabash & Spice Island.

Saint Lucia –  Anse Chastanet & Jade Mountain, Cap Maison, Bay Gardens Beach, Sugar Beach and Waters Edge Villas.

Each of the islands has its own Covid protocols. Some have no island quarantine restrictions on entry whilst others have limited time regulations, usually one or two days maximum. Details are fluid so ask us for an update at the time of enquiry.

You will need to have been double vaccinated and travel with your certificates (not just the card). You will need a passport of course, with a minimum validity of 6 months. Comprehensive insurance including medical cover for at least £50,000. You will need to take a PCR test 72 hours prior to UK  departure and with most islands take another test on arrival.

The UK Government requires you to have a further test on the island 3 days before your return and show proof of a pre-booked further test to be taken within 5 days of your UK arrival. If the island(s) revert to Amber, then two tests in the UK are required. This is under discussion at the UK cabinet level.

From 19 July travellers who are double vaccinated do not require home quarantine, but will need test 3 days before travelling to UK * and on the 2nd day after return. *Applies to travellers residing in England, different regulations may apply to Northern Island, Scotland & Wales.

Encouraging news but UK Government reserves right to change at short notice if situation changes

The above information is based on the assumption you are a UK citizen. Alternative regulations may apply to other nationals.

Both David and Marie-Helene at Chic have strong relationships with the Caribbean, both commercially and through family. As such, they visit the islands on a regular basis. They would both be delighted to discuss your holiday requirements in detail, just contact us at sales @ chiclocations.com.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers.

Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.

For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.

For the Mediterranean & Canary IslandsCaribbeanArabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.

*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.

Please refer to Travel Advice on our home page or look at www.fco.gov.uk as the Foreign Office may have issued specific destination information on safety and terrorism.
