The Chic Team Travelling as Much as Ever!
With 9 months of 2023 complete, we take stock of where the Chic team have travelled.
David dominates the travel time away, not surprisingly as reviewing and discovering product is what his role is all about. Plus despite his increasing years, he still rather enjoys it.
This year he has been to the Caribbean several times, essentially Barbados, St Lucia and Dominica, all islands with a strong family connection as well as commercial interest.
Thailand of course has been revisited. So much new to see as well as rediscovering popular resorts. One property, The Sarojin in Khao Lak , mentioned David had either stayed or visited 19 times, not bad for a hotel that only opened in 2003.
Between the Chic team, Thailand has been visited more than 200 times so they know the country rather well!
Malaysia was also revisited, with an emphasis on Sarawak on the island of Borneo – a destination where the incredible nature and wildlife probably exceed the quality of hotels. And then to Langkawi, always in demand and with the Datai dominating Chic sales. Again, David has visited Datai numerous times, starting with the opening party in 1993.
A short trip to Finland (and a day tour to Estonia from Helsinki) was experienced in June. Very enjoyable on a personal level, and Chic does arrange stays in Helsinki frequently when using Finnair for travel through to Thailand. Some of the most competitive fares especially in Business Class.
Toronto was the base again for working remotely nomad status, mid-July to mid-September. Judging by the calls and emails to and from London it seems there was less time than usual for discovering Ontario. Pity as so much to see.
There was time for a short 3-hour flight down to Miami Beach for a family reunion. 5 days of rather expensive fun. David was asked last time he had been to Miami – he recalled he flew on Concorde and that stopped flying 30-plus years ago. He felt Miami had changed a lot, not surprisingly, and mainly for the better.
Coming up in October will be a visit to Malta, one of the very few places David has never visited.
Australia and New Zealand are on this short list surprisingly.
Before the year’s end, Bali & Qatar will be revisited once more as well as Munich for the Christmas Market.
Other senior members of the team have also travelled, including Greece, Italy, Spain and the Caribbean.
As expected some new product has been added.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers.
Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
