The Sandpiper is old-time Caribbean—elegant, refined, and rather stylish.
The Sandpiper is one of the Caribbean‘s most prestigious luxury boutique hotels, nestled along a pristine West Coast beach in St. James, Barbados.
This intimate beach resort combines classic Caribbean elegance with contemporary comforts across its 7 acres of tropical gardens.
Sister hotel to Coral Reef Club, equally elegant in a subtle, deliberately conservative style.
This is one of the best luxury beachfront hotels in St. James, Barbados, to explore the charming village of Holetown. Numerous boutiques, upscale restaurants, and Limegrove shopping mall are just a short stroll away.
Speightstown, with its numerous upscale beach bars, is a 12-minute drive up the coast.
45 minutes from the airport and 25 minutes to Bridgetown.
See important note in Chic Check below.
The Sandpiper has a total of 50 garden rooms and one and two-bedroom suites. All are designed to reflect a traditional West Indian style.
The garden rooms are in clusters of 4, with two rooms either on the ground floor with a private terrace or upstairs with balcony. The suites are in a separate garden area and are extremely spacious with a living room and kitchenette.
The one-bedroom Tree Top Suites are particularly romantic and overlook the resort and beach below. One of the Tree Top suites is located on the upper floor of the Beach House Suites offering panoramic views of the Caribbean sea. Each of these suites has its own plunge pool.
We particularly like the Beach House, which has two one-bedroom suites. They can be converted into a spectacular family accommodation directly overlooking the ocean.
From January 2025, the Beach House offers three one-bedroom suites. Perfectly located for those who want the convenience of the beach almost within arm’s reach.
- Two swimming pools—one in the original section of the hotel and the other in the south section

- Plus, all of the facilities at the Coral Reef are available to you, including the fantastic spa
- A nice mix of optional restaurants and bars in Holetown, with more just a short ride up the coast in Speightstown

Look for the “i-candy” jewelry boutique in Lime Grove for some original island designs—a regular shopping destination for David from Chic!
The Sandpiper is totally elegant and stylish, consistently rated as one of the Caribbean’s top hotels.
The subtle enhancements year on year are always impressive. The clientele is affluent but without the need or desire to display or discuss it every minute! Modern comforts whilst retaining the essential Caribbean style.
Sandpiper now accepts children year-round, although those under 5 years are not allowed in the restaurants and bars after 7 pm.
The dress code is elegantly casual: cover-up swimwear for the ladies during the day and shorts and sleeved t-shirts for the men—and no hats, please. After 7 pm, long trousers and collared or Nehru shirts are required for the men and something equally attractive for the ladies. This is at the request of the many repeat clients who are comfortable with a certain style.
Note: To the left of Sandpiper, looking out to sea, a new hotel is under construction. Those with long memories will recall the site of the old Discovery Bay hotel. The new hotel has seen a stop/start couple of years of construction, with nothing happening for months on end, but it is now happening again. The location is maybe too far away for real noise disturbance, especially once in rooms , but might be more noticeable in open areas on the left side. The height of the new hotel is still under discussion but likely to be 249 rooms & 7 stories, so cranes will be used. Updated May 2025, but ask us for current information at the time of inquiry.
