The luxury of Noel Rodrigo’s Leopard Safaris comes in the experience, rather than the quality of accommodation, which is deliberately simple.
Noel Rodrigo’s Leopard Safaris is totally authentic, under canvas safari experiences. You are up close and personal with nature – a wonderfully unique experience. You have a choice of two camps. The most established is at Yala National Park, located on the south-east corner of the island. Sri Lanka’s second largest park covering 979 sq.km. It is easily accessible following a tour of the Tea Country and/or Galle and the southern resorts.
The other camp is located at Wilpattu National Park. Less well known – it was actually off-limits to tourists during the civil war. It is the largest park covering a huge 1317 sq.km and is located just off the west coast north of Colombo. It can be easily combined with a tour of the Cultural Triangle.
Both parks are known for their abundance of wildlife, which usually includes elephants, leopards, sloth bears, monkeys and a huge variety of birds, with over 30 unique to Sri Lanka.
Both camps offer a selection of single, twin and triple tents. All are “South African“ tents. Simple, sturdy and have private shower and WC – although in keeping with the experience they are rudimentary and adequate. At Yala, you have a deluxe version which offers more comfort (see image below).
All meals, soft drinks and evening spirits and beers
Two game drives daily
The luxury of Noel Rodrigo’s Leopard Safaris comes in the experience, rather than the quality of accommodation, which is deliberately simple.
Remember this is the real thing, not a zoo, so you must adhere to the advice and guidance of the ranger guides.
We suggest a 2 day (one night) safari experience, although extra nights can be easily arranged. Wilpattu National Park can be easily visited from Ulagalla in the Cultural Triangle as a day tour as well.
