Negombo area. 17 rooms. A 15-minute drive from Colombo airport and a 30-minute drive to the city. The hotel makes a wonderful introduction to the island or can be a relaxing 2/3 days after a tour of the island. The hotel Wallawwa also has a super spa. Fort Bazaar – Teardrop Hotels
Galle Fort. 18 rooms. Located in the heart of this bustling UNESCO historic port city. A great base for exploring the area. You are literally surrounded by the exotic sounds of Sri Lanka. The building started life as a 17th-century merchant house and has now been lovingly restored into a boutique hotel of real elegance.
Nine Skies – Teardrop Hotels
Ella area. 5 rooms. Opened in late 2018. Located on the Demondara area. Again, a region of outstanding natural beauty with low clouds usually adding a feeling of mystery to the landscape. One of the most atmospheric hotels within the collection. The area is enhanced by waterfalls and lush forests, as well as landscaped tea plantations. Arrangements include all meals.
Kuma Beach – Teardrop Hotels
Balapitiya, Benota area west coast beach – 10 rooms. Located on a fine stretch of boulder scattered beach. Contemporary design. This is a welcome upscale retreat within one of the most developed areas in Sri Lanka. As with all beaches in this area, you need to swim with caution, as strong currents exist. A perfect place to spend a few days relaxing after a tour of the interior. This area is known for its turtle hatching and visits to the nearby Madu Ganga River.
Goat Fell – Teardrop Hotels
Nuwaya Eliya. 4 rooms. Located within the vast Concordia Estate, high on a hill with incredible views. It used to be the estate manager’s house. You can see why the British were so reluctant to leave. It epitomises style and upcountry charm. Arrangements include all meals.
Camellia Hills – Teardrop Hotels
Dickoya area. 5 rooms. Perched on the side of the Castlereagh Valley & reservoir. It has some of the very best panoramic views you are likely to find on the island. A perfect base for exploring the tea factories and plantations. Arrangements include all meals.
We can easily combine two or three of these outstanding Teardrop Hotels. Marie-Helene from Chic has travelled extensively around the island and would be delighted to craft something totally unique and personalised for you.
We would suggest a combination of Wallawwa with the opportunity to visit Colombo. One or maybe two of the Hill country options, as they offer contrasting scenery and attractions. Then end at Kumu Beach.
Nine Skies, Camellia Hills and Goat Hills are all located with the Tea and Hill country, an area defined by tea plantations. For something very different we suggest arriving into this area by scenic mountain train, usually from Kandy.
As you might surmise, the hill country resorts can be noticeably cooler than the coastal areas, so a warm jumper and maybe a light raincoat would be suggested. Particularly for the early mornings and evenings. Comfortable walking shoes also suggested as part of the appeal will be enjoying gentle treks (more strenuous and adventurous options also available).
In addition to these superb hotels, Teardrop Hotels also own the Monsoon restaurant in Colombo. This award-winning dining option is one of the most acclaimed in the entire region. The cuisine is South East Asia street food styled, but with the highest hygienic standards. Even if are not staying in a Teardrop hotel, certainly worth checking out if you are in Colombo.
