Get back to nature and enjoy simple eco-chic pleasures with Koh Jum Beach Villas
Koh Jum Beach Villas is a delightful eco-influenced resort, wonderfully capturing the style of the island. Thatched roofs, local teak wood and classic Sino –Thai interiors. It is positioned on Koh Jum, just off the mainland of Krabi.
Koh Jum is a small island located just to the west of Krabi and North of Koh Lanta. You can circumnavigate by bicycle in just under two hours. Three small fishing villages, with a resident population of around 2000. It is totally tropical, with rubber plantations, high drooping pine trees and quiet beaches strewn with coral stones and shells and mountains in the north.
You arrive at Krabi airport and take a 20-minute road transfer to the jetty and then a further 35 minutes long-tail ferry (25 minutes private speedboat) to the resort. Tourism is very much in its infancy here. There is no ATM or banking facility so change any money at Krabi Airport before the transfer. The main occupation of the island community is either on rubber plantations or fishing.
Koh Jum Beach Villas has a choice of 19 freestanding villas offering from one to five bedrooms. All are spacious with in and out living space.
- There are 4 one-bedroom villas – two with private pools
- 8 Two Bedroom Villas – three of which have private pools
- 4 Three Bedroom Villas, all with a private pool
- 2 Four Bedroom Villas each with a private pool
- 1 Five Bedroom Villa which does not have a private pool but is located directly next to the main pool
Some are located in the tropical gardens, others are beach-front. All bedrooms are air-conditioned although many seem to prefer the natural breeze from the sea.
Please Note: None of the villas have a TV.
- Swimming pool
- Restaurant & bar
- Organic vegetable garden
- Massage room
- Paddle boards for beach
- Kayaking beachfront or through the mangroves with a private guide
- Private In-Villa Thai Cooking Classes
- Fibre optic cables accessible in villas and public areas
- WIFI is available in many areas within the resort, much less so on the island generally
- Bike hire and tuk-tuk taxi for touring
- Boats can be arranged for tours to neighbouring islands such as Phi Phi Don Railay Beach Krabi (probably the most photographed limestone pillar in all of Thailand), Koh Chicken and Hong Island and lagoon
- The immediate beach in front of the villas has some rocks, but as it stretches 700 m there are plenty of clear access paths into the sea – However, we do suggest sea wader shoes for your comfort
- There are WI-FI hot spots within the resort, as well as cool areas where a signal is intentionally more difficult
Staying at Koh Jum Beach Villas will be like visiting a Thailand of yesteryear.
The appeal might be to those who still have a backpacker traveller sense of adventure but want to stay in quality atmospheric accommodation. Tourism is still very new. That just adds to the attraction for the right client.
It will attract couples and maybe multi-generational families. There are no specific facilities for children other than what nature has provided.
Koh Jum is not the place for shopping and nightlife might be limited to a Thai-Rasta reggae beach bar. The best time to visit is December through April, when the days are usually bright and sunny and the seas calm. May to October can see more rain, usually in sharp heavy bursts and higher sea swells.
The Journey – Connecting flight Bangkok to Krabi, then road transfer and finally a boat ride. Might seem like a long schlep (it is) but take it as part of the experience. If it were any easier, the island would be more commercial.
