Mandarin Oriental — Contemporary luxury with delightful Omani themes.

Description & Location

Mandarin Oriental is a relatively new name to the Muscat hotel scene, opened midsummer 2024. It combines an elegant contemporary design theme with strong Omani influences, especially in the public areas.

Very well located within the upscale Shatti Al-Qurum embassy and residential district. The airport is about a 20-minute drive north.

The famous Royal Opera House, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and New Muscat Centre are about a 5-minute drive inland. The old town, with its selection of museums, whitewashed villages and the atmospheric Mattrah Souk (market) is about an 8-minute drive south.

Accommodation

Mandarin Oriental has a selection of 103 rooms & 47 one-bedroom and speciality suites.

All are bright and extremely spacious, starting at 65 sqm, including relaxing patio or balcony facing either the mountains, gardens or sea.

Facilities and Activities
  • Two swimming pools
  • Spa
  • Health Club
  • Kid’s club playroom
  • Numerous restaurants and bars offering differing locations and cuisine styles

There is a public beach in front of the hotel, separated by a walkway. The beach is popular with Omani residents and visitors. You are asked to respect local protocol and maybe not wear skimpy swimwear to the beach.

CHIC CHECK

Mandarin Oriental Is a delightful and most welcome addition to the luxury Muscat scene.

For us, it is a super choice for those looking to explore the immediate area with all of the attractions of Muscat’s Old and new towns within a short drive. The room quality is so impressive with ample in-and-out living space.

As an idea, the Mandarin Oriental would combine especially well with 2/3 nights high up in the awesome Jabal Akhdar Mountains, maybe staying at the Alila.
