Song Saa Private Island Cambodia offers top quality eco-sensitive accommodation, with hi-tech comforts, friendly, highly personalised and professional attention
Song Saa Private Island Cambodia was one of the most discussed luxury resorts when it opened in the region about 10 years ago and it is still the front runner for simple stripped-down elegance. Located on two small islands sharing the collective name of Song Saa (it means sweethearts in the Khmer language) within the Koh Rong Archipelago of twenty islands.
Song Saa is about 45 minutes by speedboat from Sihanoukville, following a 4-hour drive south from Phnom Penh city. There are also direct flights three times weekly from Siem Reap to Sihanoukville, with the small domestic airport just 15 minutes drive to the port. There are also direct flights from Bangkok and several more regional services are planned – ask us for an update.
Song Saa operates on island time so is one hour forward than the mainland.
See note below on Sihanoukville.
Song Saa Private Island has 24 villas.
Most of which are Junior suite-style, with spacious bedrooms and an integrated living area. There are equally generous bathrooms and outdoor living spaces with dining area, sundeck, and private plunge pools.
All are beautifully designed with a combination of both contemporary and traditional features.
You have a choice of:
Jungle Villas which are elevated and probably have the best views to enjoy the neighbouring islands, although the villas are reached by quite a steep incline path. You have the option of one two and three-bedroom.
Ocean View Villas with sand sundeck, overlooking the rocks below and facing back across the ocean and the mainland in the far distance. One bedroom with sundeck.
Overwater Villas on stilts which allow step down access into the lagoon. These villas also have a transparent glass viewing floor. You have a choice of one, two and three bedrooms
Choice of restaurant-style and location
A selection of non-motorised water sports and eco-excursions to the neighbouring islands (some excursions extra cost)
Small cove beach, with several more on neighbouring islands and an expansive 5-mile option on the nearby island of Koh Rong, reached by speedboat.
All water sports/activity subject to weather conditions
Simple gym set in the jungle
Innovative spa treatments can be arranged in your villa or around the resort .
See Chic Check below. Prices include all meals, and fully stocked mini-bar daily, house beverages (with a further selection of al-a-carte wines and spirits available at extra cost), unlimited laundry excluding dry cleaning which is not available on the island. There is also a breakfast only plan, lower price of course but maybe false economy as there is nowhere else to eat.
Song Saa Private Island offers top quality eco-sensitive accommodation, with hi-tech comforts, friendly, highly personalised and professional attention, with superb and innovative menus that can usually be tailored to your requirements.
The main island houses the villas and the central facilities. The second island, reached by a wooden bridge, is an uninhabited nature reserve.
As with most remote islands, probably best enjoyed with a compatible and ideally romantic company. It can also have a great attraction to affluent families with older confident and adventurous children. Younger children are accepted, although there are no specific facilities. You need to comfortable with open over-water boardwalks linking the central areas and as all accommodation have private pools you need to be cautious.
Song Saa is expensive, without a doubt. It’s right up there with the top prices of the region and more, but that seems to form part of the appeal of what you are buying, in the total sense of exclusivity.
Song Saa will probably be incorporated into a multi-centre tour of the region, all of which can be personalised to suit your individual requirements.
The Following would just be a suggestion:
4 nights Song Saa, taking advantage of the direct Angkor Air flight directly into Sikhanoville* three times weekly.
2 nights Phnom Penh, the vibrant and lively capital of Cambodia, staying at the wonderfully historic Le Grand Raffles or the boutique Bale before flying back to Bangkok for connecting flight to London.
This is just an idea and there are regular flights into both Siem Reap and Phonh Penh from most of the major cities in the region. Bangkok is probably the most popular gateway, but there are daily flights into both cities from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Saigon, so touring combinations are easy to arrange.
*Sikhanoukville is a highly developed resort, mainly used by low-end Chinese travellers whose main interest tends to be a casino. Most other nationalities take advantage of the improved air service but quickly transit onto the much more exclusive offshore islands.
