Luxurious Romantic Escapism
Elevated with incredible views at every turn. Two beaches and a tropical forest on three sides – this is chic tropical escapism and adventure at its very best.
Located on the northwest coast of Dominica, 10 minutes drive from Portsmouth, one hour from the international airport and 50 minutes coastal drive to the island capital Roseau. There are no direct flights from the UK to Dominica but good connections via Antigua & Barbados.
Dominica is known as the nature island of the Caribbean. It is lush, tropical forests and mountains, with more waterfalls and rivers than beaches. Wonderfully charming, in a deliberately simple way. It is like stepping back in time.
Secret Bay is a proud member of Relais & Chateaux.
Secret Bay 16 villas split into three enclaves, Cliff, Peninsula and Summit.
All offer indoor & outdoor living space.
A selection of top-quality villas ranging from one to three bedrooms. All have a private pool. The exteriors reflect the island style with good use of local woods and stone, the interior’s a combination of Caribbean colours and Italian luxury.
Two beaches, one reached by a pathway, the other is accessible by kayaking or snorkelling around the headland.
There are two restaurants, adults-only Zing Zing with a ‘no menu’ concept and Bwa Denn. Both with an emphasis on local and regional cuisine and bar or in-villa dinning.
A Beachfront pool.
Non-motorised watersports including kayaks & paddle boats.
A selection of island tours on a private basis can be easily arranged by the highly personalised team.
Secret Bay Dominica is dramatic – an instant wow!
Luxury combined with adventure.
As most points are elevated, you need to be comfortable with heights, and living side by side with nature, which is part of the appeal. There are numerous steps linking the facilities so it might not be ideal for those with mobility issues.
It is all about adventure and discovery rather than beach pampering, with a host of unique experiences both on land and sea – it is one of the best places for snorkelling, diving, and whale & dolphin watching.
It is high price, but that seems to be an attraction, rather than a negative. Secret Bay is for those who retain a backpacker sense of adventure and discovery, but have now financially grown.
Note: this is Dominica in the eastern Caribbean Leeward Islands. It is pronounced Dom-in-ica. Located between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It is one of the larger islands in the Leeward/ Windward chain and has just 70,000 residents, many seem to live well over 90 plus, which says something. It is not the Spanish-speaking Dominican Republic, which is a totally different island (in every way) in the Western Caribbean.
Both David, and especially Marie-Helene (MH), have good personal experience with Secret Bay and would be delighted to discuss in greater detail.
The appeal will essentially be couples or families with children over 16 years. For those travelling with children under 16 years, an insurance disclaimer will be required to be signed upon arrival. Some facilities are adult-only usage, such as the Spa, the beach pool at certain times of the year and one of the restaurants.
We also suggest a twin centre in Dominica, staying 2 nights at Fort Young in Roseau – perfectly positioned for exploring the atmospheric ramshackle capital and the south of the island before moving up to the luxury of Secret Bay.
Island combination holidays, especially with Barbados, St Lucia & Antigua are easy to arrange.
