Paradee Resort is an easy access, tropical hide & seek escape. Totally chilled atmosphere, beautiful beach and attractive villa style accommodation.
The Paradee Resort is an attractive boutique resort, maybe more ‘Indian Ocean’ in style than Thai, with three rows of thatched roofed villas. Delightfully escapist and relaxed. The island has just a few international hotels, of which The Paradee Resort is the standout property.
It is located on the quiet southern tip of the island at Ao Kiew beach. Koh Samet Resorts is one of the closest to Bangkok, with just a short 2.5 hours drive south, followed by a 20-minute speedboat ride. It is totally tropical. For the right client, the journey is part of the experience.
Sai Kaew is the only village on the island. Superb beach, several restaurants & bars – some with music – and casual shopping. Popular with regional/ local travellers or those looking for some nightlife. Easily accessible by Tuk Yuk taxi.
80% plus of the island is national park. The intention is to keep it that way. There is an island entrance fee of about £5 per person, payable directly on arrival. Your speedboat will stop for a few minutes en route to Paradee whilst one of the team obtains your ticket. Payment will be taken in the lounge prior to embarkation. Samed also tries to be plastic free – so any plastic bottles / containers might be taken from you.
Paradee Resort has 40 individual villas, all sea facing, although only the beachfront level has clear sea views, due to the garden foliage.
The interiors are simple and romantic with an Arabian Moorish red hue design theme. Most have king size 4 poster beds. All have sitting room area, either integrated into the bedroom or separated by an arch.
You have a choice of:
Garden Cottages without a pool, Garden Cottages with pool, and Beach Cottages with pool, set in three rows leading down to the beach. The interiors are essentially similar but, if your budget allows, opt for a Pool Villa.
For that ultimate experience, a Beach Pool Villa, which puts you literally two strides from your bedroom or bathroom onto that incredibly soft sandy beach.
In addition, you have a couple of One Bedroom Suites with separate living room and elevated roof terrace.
The main beach is extensive – over half a mile long – whilst the sea is usually an inviting turquoise blue.
On the opposite side of the island, just 2 minutes walk from reception, you have an additional rocky cove beach bar and snack restaurant. A great place for sunset cocktails.
- Attractive spa
- Gym
- Main swimming pool with a smaller option, mainly used by garden cluster cottages
- Main restaurant plus on beach dining most evenings
- Two bars – one located positioned poolside the other on an elevated wooden deck to enjoy the sunset
- A selection of non-motorised water sports, plus sailing trips to the offshore islands
The Paradee Resort has an easy-going gentle charm, probably best appreciated by adults.
We think Paradee has particular attraction after a multicentre tour around the region. The perfect place to chill for a few days without the hassle of another flight before heading home.
We love it. Visited many times and it never fails to impress us. Perfect place to relax under the palm trees. Take a good book… or three. Fantastic soft sand beach, and usually inviting turquoise blue water quality.
The resort’s appeal is mainly to adult couples. Children are accepted but there are no specific facilities other than what nature provided . As many of the villas have private pools, you might be asked to sign an insurance disclaimer if travelling with children.
The location of the Paradee Resort is in the extreme south of the island and is pleasantly self-contained. If you wish to have more restaurant options you can visit the lively Sai Kaeo area. About 5 minutes by speedboat, or by island taxi for 20 minutes. Your hotel host will be delighted to assist you.
Currently the island only has one tarmac road which opened to grand acclaim in 2015! This road probably has the world record in speed humps, deliberately, in a successful attempt to keep inexperienced moped riders safe!
Development is coming to Samet, but this is mainly confined to the busier north of the island. Only 20 minutes drive, but a very different atmosphere.
Note: Samed can also be spelt Samet – same place. Frequently happens in Thailand.
