Silhouette Island is located 12 miles off the north-west coast of Mahe. Clearly visible, aptly named, seemingly resting on the horizon, about 40 minutes by hotel speedboat. Helicopter transfers can also be arranged. Expensive, yes, but a real experience.
Silhouette is the 3rd largest of the 115 Seychelles islands, after Mahe and Praslin, yet has a resident population of less than 50, mainly plantation workers and fishermen, all living in the village of La Passe, a short walk away from the Resort.
It is lush and green (93% of the Island is a Natural reserve) with several good beaches stretched along 2.5km. This area has some of the best snorkelling and diving plus on land several hiking trails. The island makes dramatic viewing, clearly visible from Mahe, dominated by Mount Daubin which is one of the highest peaks in Seychelles.

A truly outstanding island. It is a national park with one of the richest biodiversity’s found anywhere in the island ocean. There are no roads, just footpaths and tracks. Obviously no cars , just a few electric carts used by the resort. A few outstanding beaches with a high mountain backdrop.
You arrive by hotel speedboat from Mahe, which can be a fun exhilarating ride, especially in July / August when the crossing might be a tad bumpy, with the last 100 yards sheltered by the reef.

If shopping and nightlife are priorities then Seychelles will disappoint, especially on Silhouette, where the pleasures are deliberately simple and stripped back.
David from Chic first visited the island in 1975 – yes he really is that old! He says, apart from the opening of the resort in 2011, hardly anything else has changed, which is quite something.
The resort can be easily arranged as a single centre but we would suggest a combination with Mahe, maybe staying at the Hilton Northolme Resort.
