La Toretta Lodge offers simple elegance in a fantasticly unique location…
La Toretta Lodge is a wonderful totally boutique hotel positioned at the peak of the hill overlooking the village and bay below. It is in the village of Manarola, one of the 5 small villages that make up the Cinque Terre region. It was originally an ancient lookout tower but has now been lovingly converted into a rather special hotel.
The nearest airports are either Genoa or Pisa, both about 45 miles away. Cars are not permitted in the Manarola village area so you will probably arrive by train – the station is 600 yards away, adjacent to the sea edge.
La Toretta Lodge has a choice of 13 rooms and suites. Each offers a specular view of the olive grove terraces or the Liguria Sea.
You have Classic Rooms, Junior Suites and Duplex Suites. All are stylishly designed, combining contemporary comforts such as satellite TV and, of course, Nespresso coffee machines as well as fine Italian art.
A restaurant where breakfast is served and in the evening this converts into a comfortable bar with regular wine and cheese tasting
There are several restaurant options, both at hilltop level and around the marina, plus more in the neighbouring villages which are linked by train
La Toretta Lodge is expensive, even by Italian standards, with nightly rates around the £600 per night mark in spring or £250 in the autumn or late winter months, but in our view, it ticks all the boxes and offers an unrivalled style within the Cinque Terre area.
It is positioned at the top of the hill, so you need to be prepared for a steep walk and within the hotel. There are also numerous steps linking the rooms to the public areas.
You visit Cinque Terre for the scenery, the natural, authentic beauty of the area, and the simple uncomplicated luxury. And of course, highly personalised attention – the owners and the staff all seem to come from the immediate area and have a real passion that is infectious!
It is particularly popular with hikers and walkers from around the world, and there are various trails linking each village. For the less energetic there is a train service between each village. They are about 3 minutes apart, mainly travelling in a tunnel. It is easily accessible from both Genoa and Pisa, so combinations are easy to arrange.
Popular year round, with April to June and September / October the most in demand months. July & August are more popular with day trippers rather than walkers given the increased heat.
