Unspoilt rustic adventure, tropical island bliss
Thatched roofs and wooden walls. Individual villas. Tropical gardens leading down to a coconut tree fringed beach. Simple, yet pleasing, with just about the right level of modern comfort.
High Season Pool Villa & Spa Resort is located on the attractive Klong Chao beach in the south west corner of the island. Actually, all of the beaches are located on the west coast, the centre and east coast is almost totally untouched & pristine. The island had dense tropical forests, a rather spectacular waterfall, a couple of fishing villages and a resident population of less than 3,000. It is like rediscovering the Thailand of yesteryear when tourism was in its infancy. A place when you can indulge in your desert island fantasies rather nicely.
The resort will appeal to couples and multi-generational families maybe with children who want to learn about unspoilt Thailand more than face-painting.
Koh Kood (also known as Koh Kut in Thai) is an island in Thailand’s Gulf of Thailand, in Trat province. Trat is located approximately 330 kilometers south east of Thailand, close to the border with Cambodia. There are a few flights daily from Bangkok, flying time about 90 minutes. From Trat Airport, take a 60-minute transfer to Laem Sok Pier for passenger/car ferry to Koh Kood (Ao Salad Pier) for about 50 minutes. High Season will look forward to welcoming you at the Ao Salad Pier, takes about 30 minutes by shuttle car transfer.
Alternatively, you can travel by car from Bangkok, a scenic 4-5 hours drive straight to the Laem Sok Pier, Trat Province and then continue as above. (Actually when you factor in the transfer time to Bangkok Airport , the at least one hour preflight check in, flight time and then transfer to the pier it is very similar to the road transfer.)
Koh Kood is generally at its best weather-wise November to April, when the days are usually bright and sunny and the seas calm. May to October can see higher rainfall mainly in heavy showers , and higher seas which can disrupt ferry services – same day international flight connections would not be advised.
See additional notes in Chic Check.

Many places in South East Asia are starting to show the negative side of over-tourism. This particularly applies to resorts within easy transfer distance from an airport.
Koh Kood is the reverse – getting there is part of the appeal and challenge. It’s one of the reasons for its attraction. Koh Kood is all about simple natural pleasures. Going to somewhere most have not even heard of, let alone visited. It is not for everybody – almost proudly & deliberately. Equally, if shopping and nightlife are a priority, look elsewhere.
When David from Chic last visited there were no ATM’s or banks (you need to bring some cash with you for any local purchases, although the hotel incidental account can be paid by credit card.) There was no 7-Eleven supermarket, highly unusual in Thailand – neighbouring Koh Chang seems to have one every 30 metres! But there is now a small locally owned option, much nicer. There is even a small medical centre.
David raved about the beaches, the scenery, the real sense of adventure, the sea pirate excitement of the villages, even the occasional ornate temple – and the comparative absence of commercialised tourism. Currently it is a few backpackers staying in basic guest houses and some well informed travellers choosing to stay in one of the few international hotels.

+ About The Gulf of Siam Resorts
Located on the west coast of the Gulf of Siam, just over 2 hours drive south of Bangkok. For years they have been the aspirational centre for affluent Thai families who have holiday homes in the area. The two resorts run into each other along the coast, with Hua Hin the more developed with many hotels and in particular high rise condominiums.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per-person, per-night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
