Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai is a new addition to the Chiang Mai luxury hotel scene
Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai opened in Spring 2023. It combines typical Lanna Northern Thailand teak houses, originally built in the mid-1800s and authentically restored, with a “less is more” modern section of rooms and suites.
It is located in a quiet residential area 15 minutes drive west of the old city, close to the university campus. The atmospheric Wat Umong temple is a short walk away, and the airport is 10 minutes drive.
Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai is a proud member of Leading Hotels of the World Group.
Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai has a selection of 32 deluxe rooms split over two wings of the main building.
7 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom suites with plunge pools. And then a rather grand old teak house with 4 bedrooms, low roofs, narrow wooden staircases, swimming pool – a real step back in Siam (Thai) culture.
- Teak house restaurant with upper bar – complete with German piano dating back 100-plus years
- Tailor-made holistic health and wellness program available at Ayurah Spa & Wellness Centre.
- In the immediate area, you have small roads and some simple dining options and the Wat Umong temple is a must, hardly visited by Farang ( Foreigners ) which almost adds to the attraction
- Taxis to the old town are cheap with the journey taking you down busy side streets with curb-side restaurants full of University students at night
Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai is not the usual location for Chiang Mai hotels but that makes it different. Plus the advantage of space (some of the other new hotels go up high rather than along).
Well-behaved children are tolerated rather than attracted, with no specific facilities and the spa is available only for 16 years plus. As such, the main attraction will be for adults.
David from Chic stayed here in June 2023 and liked the combination of design styles, the immediate visual impact of the pool, his spacious nicely-designed deluxe room, the friendly team and especially the spa which he mentions frequently.

+ About Chiang Mai & North Thailand
Chiang Mai is the 2nd city of Thailand but is just a fraction of the size of Bangkok. It is compact, bustling and despite some recent development, it retains a market town atmosphere. It is the main gateway to the region. Flying time from Bangkok 60 minutes. Chiang Rai is in the extreme northeast of the country, even smaller and more traditional, with the focal point of interest being the Golden Triangle, the area where Thailand, Laos and Burma (Myanmar) all meet.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per-person, per-night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
