UAE / Oman / Qatar Airspace Precautionary Measures & Client Support as a result of the USA / Iran conflict
Update on the conflict in the Middle East. DK – 24/03/26
Not a lot has changed in the last two weeks. It seems to have either escalated or become calmer depending on the report you are reading and from whom, and it changes almost hour by hour.
Many flights from the UK to the Middle East have stopped operating until late April, and as this was a transit gateway on to SE Asia, it has placed incredible pressure on the still-operating alternative direct flights from the UK to places like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, both in terms of availability and very high cost.
In addition, there are genuine concerns about fuel availability worldwide. This is having a negative impact, affecting so many things we have taken for granted.
In terms of travel demand, the Caribbean has seen a noticeable surge. May to October are generally softer demand months, so hotels have been receptive to encouraging more clients with some extra-value offers.
Unfortunately, the airlines do not see it the same way, with seat availability tight and costs high. This is particularly true in the months of July and August, when the Caribbean diaspora in the UK usually travels “home”.
There was already huge demand for Southern European resorts (including the Canary Islands) even before the conflict, and this has continued to almost saturation point. If rooms become available, this is usually because of a cancellation, and they are resold immediately at a much higher price.
There is still space in many of the cities, such as Rome, Madrid, Lisbon and Athens, offering a more sightseeing/discovery holiday than beach relaxation.
We continue to realistically monitor the situation and try to be of assistance whenever possible.
This especially applies to those who were booked to travel in the early spring and summer periods.
Update DK 13/3/26
Not a lot positive to add. The situation changes day to day. Anything from mid-April onwards is pure speculation, no one knows.
The Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia remain popular, but with direct flights rather than Middle East transits. As such, fares on non-stop flights have increased, and availability has decreased.
If you are still booked with a transit stop in the Middle East, please check your insurance, as many policies have been revised following UK FCO advice.
The Caribbean is also showing demand as an alternative destination. Most hotels have come out with additional promotional offers, excluding peak demand periods over Easter and any island-specific festivals (i.e., St Lucia Jazz Festival, 3-10 May). Flight availability is tight, with many of the lower booking classes unavailable.
For those already booked and travelling from mid-April onwards, we are happy to move your deposit to an alternative Chic destination, at a higher or lower applicable price. Or we are happy to hold your deposit until March 2027.
You will be aware that the UAE / Oman / Qatar has closed its airspace (as of 01 March, but this is under constant review by the relevant authorities) as a precaution amid regional tensions.
The General Civil Aviation Authority and the relevant ministries have reiterated that public safety is the top priority.
Practical advice for our Clients
- Follow official guidance. See https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice followed by the country. - With most of our clients the final destination will be in SE Asia or the Indian Ocean, but the arrangement might involve a transit flight connection, so look up the transit country.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers.
Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding air fare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
