Aava Resort and Spa Surat Thani is a delightful, relatively new, boutique hotel with just 28 rooms. Located on a super stretch of sandy beach. Set in a quiet, scenic area, which is still wonderfully authentic. This is a glimpse of how much of Thailand used to be before commercialised tourism moved into many areas. For the dedicated escapist, it is a wonderful option.
You fly from Bangkok to Surat Thani (60 minutes) and then continue by road transfer for just over another hour to the resort.
Aava Resort and Spa has 28 highly contemporary bungalow style, low rise bungalows and villas.
Totally stylish, combining the Scandinavian influence of the owners and Asian touches come through in the genuine smiles and, of course, the wonderful cuisine.
You have a choice of Superior and Deluxe Bungalows, both of which are set back in the garden. There are Poolside Villas, with integrated living space, and a Two Bedroom Duplex Family Villa.

The Aava Resort and Spa Surat Thani is a real hide and chic retreat. Here the delights are simple, yet comfortable and high quality. Here a genuine smile is considered more important than extensive in-resort activities. As with many resorts of this type, compatible company is important.
The Aava is set in a wonderful and totally authentic area. It is a world away from the more established resorts of Thailand, although on a clear day Samui is clearly visible in the distance. This area is scenic with a forest backdrop, and in addition to the glorious beach in front of the hotel, you have several more equally dramatic options close by.
The resort can organise tours around the area with 4 wheel drive and guide. For those even more adventurous souls, mopeds and bicycles can be arranged. Pink Dolphins are unique to this area and can be regularly seen just offshore.
Snorkelling and fishing trips can be arranged, subject to weather conditions. This area generally has its best weather March to October (same as Samui), in the winter months, you get increased rainfall and higher sea swells.
Footnote – Unsurprisingly given the great beach and tropical backdrop there is now some development in the area. On the land adjacent, a new low rise yet un-named boutique hotel is being built. The work is screened from view but it might be visible and may be audible from the beach to one side. The work is mainly being done by hand, so will continue through to end 2018. Ask us for updates.

We would suggest a combination with Bangkok where we think The Muse offers a similar style. If time permits, a few days in the north at Chiang Mai where we would suggest the unique 137 Pillars House. There are direct flights from Chiang Mai straight to Surat Thani on Air Asia.
