The Float House River Kwai—simple, authentic, chic adventure
The Float House River Kwai has just 30 floating villas, connected to the main building by pontoon bridge.
Their design embraces authentic Thai charm, blending harmoniously with its natural surroundings while offering exceptional comfort.
You travel from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, which takes about 3 hours by road, via the M81 Expressway, depending on traffic. There is a rail option, but it takes longer! From the ferry point, you continue by longtail boat along the river for about 10–15 minutes to reach The Float House, marvelling at the dense forest and misty mountain backdrop.
The Float House River Kwai has 30 riverside wooden retreats with warm Thai character.
Each with spacious en-suite bathrooms and integrated in & outdoor living space, all located at the river edge.
They are located on either side of the main building, about 2/3 minutes bouncing along the walkway.
The rooms do not have telephones in the rooms, but we suggest you connect your phone with reception on arrival.
- Restaurant & bar
- Tranquil riverside spa
- Jungle pathway to neighbouring Mon Tribe village
- Float House does not have a swimming pool, but the neighbouring property does (under same management)—just a 10-minute walk along a peaceful nature trail, where you can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding forest and make a stop at Lawa Cave, one of the highlights of the national park
- Complimentary bicycles are also available for exploring the immediate area
For exploring the greater area including Kanchanaburi town, you will need to return to the ferry point and then take a pre-arranged tour.
This area is famous for the Death Railway, Museum and Cemetery, the emotional Hellfire Pass and information centre, the 7-level Erawan waterfalls, and the rural scenery.
Float House will especially appeal to those who are attracted by true nature and escapism—plus, it is stylish and comfortable.
The 10-15 minute longtail boat transfer to and from the resort is very much part of the attraction—note you step down and shuffle into the boat and reverse action coming out.
At the resort, you may be fortunate enough to spot monitor lizards swimming in the river or basking on the rocks. A fascinating part of the local wildlife and a true sign of the area’s thriving natural ecosystem. Rest assured, they usually remain in their natural habitat and do not enter the guest villas.
Marie-Helene from Chic stayed at Float House in summer 2026. She totally enjoyed it – she is a nature enthusiast.
She stayed 3 days and really explored the area, including the Erawan Falls, getting to the highest level.
She would be delighted to discuss further.
David from Chic has also stayed, hence the comment about getting in and out of the longtail boat, but he also enjoyed the total charm and unique appeal.
The River Kwai area can be visited as a full-day tour from Bangkok, but we think it is best appreciated with at least an overnight.
