Couples retreat in winter, summer family fun!
The Twin Lotus Resort is a really attractive, superior first-class resort, spread over mature tropical gardens leading down to an extensive sandy beachfront.
It is located on the northwest corner of Koh Lanta Yai, the larger southern sister to Lanta Noi (north), which you pass through. The two islands are linked by bridge & ferry.
The atmospheric village of Saladan, with its market and simple dining options, is just a short shuttle drive away from the resort.
The usual arrival airport will be Krabi International. It is about a 90-minute drive to the resort. You can also fly into Phuket, with a scenic road transfer of about 3 hours.
Twin Lotus is available to adults only (over 18 years) from November to April* and families from May to October* (*Those travelling at the end of April and early November might see a few families whose stay overlaps for a few nights).
Twin Lotus Resort has 131 rooms, villas and suites. All are spacious, starting at 50 sqm, essentially a bright contemporary design style with traditional Thai touches.
You have a choice of:
- Superior rooms – 50 sqm – Garden facing
- Deluxe rooms – 65 sqm – Garden facing
- Garden Villas – 65 sqm
- Deluxe Garden Villas – 70 sqm
- Deluxe Sea View Villas 70 sqm
- Deluxe Beachfront front Villas – 90 sqm
In addition, there are a couple of larger one/two-bedroom villas with private pools.
- Spa
- Fitness room
- Two restaurants for main meals in differing locations
- Two swimming pools set within the gardens and additional beachfront option
- Thai cooking & beach yoga classes on a group basis (private lessons can be arranged at a supplement)
- There are several dive centres within a short drive if you require
- Kayaking and paddle boats
In our view, Koh Lanta is probably the best known, yet still proudly quiet, island in Thailand. David from Chic has been regularly visiting over the last 25-plus years, so I can say with genuine experience it has hardly changed – a complete contrast to many of the Thai resorts which are almost unrecognisable.
The attractive beaches will probably be the main attraction, but take time to explore both on land & sea. You can circumnavigate the main island in a day by car, exploring small fishing villages, waterfalls and even a couple of ethical elephant camps. At sea it is one of the best-known diving areas, plus the famous Phi Phi Islands are easily accessible on a half- or full-day excursion.
Koh Lanta is not known for its international shopping or nightlife; it’s more about simple relaxation. Twin centres with Bangkok or Phuket, or maybe a tour also including Chiang Mai, are easy to arrange so you can have retail indulgence, buzzing bars, and cultural & scenic contrasts, ending with beach time.
The journey from the airport will take around 90 minutes, but take that as part of the holiday experience – any closer and it would be much more developed.
The peak demand months are November to April, when the days are usually bright and sunny, the beaches at their widest and seas generally calm. The months May to October might be best described as “red flag” season – lower rates but higher sea swells and a greater chance of rain in frequent short, sharp bursts.

+ About Krabi, Koh Lanta & Koh Lipe
Krabi is located on the west coat mainland facing the Andaman Sea, and Koh Lanta is linked by car-ferry and/or speedboat. Both are wonderfully tropical, with limestone islands emerging from the generally turquoise waters. Krabi is more developed and has a lively nightlife scene at Ao Nang. Koh Lanta is quieter, with just a couple of good hotels, offering a glorious and real sense of escapism.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers. Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May-June level and about 50% more in Asia. For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East, we show a per-person, per-night hotel guide, excluding airfare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.
