The Ritz-Carlton Abama Resort - Including Tagor' Villas

The Ritz-Carlton Abama Resort is an impressive resort, with superb facilities for all the family…

Description & Location

The Ritz-Carlton Abama Resort is located on the sunnier west coast, close to the village of Playa San Juan. 30 minutes drive from the south Tenerife airport. Instantly luxurious, designed in a red hue Moorish style. Set amongst extensive tropical gardens, leading down to its own golden sand cove beach (funicular lift takes you down the final stage to beach level).

Accommodation

A total of 321 rooms and suites in the main Citadel building. All spacious with a choice of tropical garden views or  sea facing aspect, albeit from a distance. Each room is tastefully decorated, in a bright, but restful modern style.

For those travelling with children, we particularly suggest the extra comfort and space offered by the Junior Suites with their integrated living space. The hotel also has numerous interconnecting Deluxe Rooms. These can usually be confirmed at time of booking, although early booking is suggested – especially at peak school holiday periods.

In addition there are 148 Villa Rooms and Suites. Set in 4 rows in the garden leading down towards the sea, with each row having its own shared swimming pool.

The Tagor Villas are in a separate exclusive terrace area reserved for adults only – no children under 18 – with their own shared swimming pool and your own buggy to drive around the resort. They include soft drinks/beer during the day, up to 4 snack food presentations around the pool and a voucher for VIP lounge on airport departure from Tenerife (South).

Facilities and Activities

Facilities include numerous speciality restaurants in differing locations spread throughout the resort (see note below)
Several swimming pools – Some are adult only
Excellent sporting facilities, including tennis
Gym
Spa and its own championship golf course.
The kids club caters for children from 4-12  years
Freelance babysitting can be arranged, at extra cost
Children under 4 years can go into the club if accompanied by adult or babysitter

CHIC CHECK

The Ritz-Carlton Abama Resort has excellent facilities, spread over the extensive 400 acre estate. There is quite a steep hill leading down from the main hotel past the manicured gardens to the beach cliff top, but for the less energetic a regular buggy service or resort train operates on demand. An impressive resort, with superb facilities for all the family.

When half board has been pre-booked, this will be on limited  to a few of the restaurants with a credit for dining in the others should you desire. A few of the restaurants will be adult only and/or require those wishing to dine as a family to eat earlier.

The resort has fantastic leisure facilities with championship golf course adjacent, and an extremely well equipped tennis club. Lessons for both can be prearranged on request. The resort is in a tropical estate, fringed by banana plantations. There is a small village with some restaurant options within a 10 minute drive, or the more developed areas of south Tenerife are just 15 minutes away. Tenerife is an interesting island to explore, with vastly different scenic attractions, so we would suggest car hire to add to your flexibility.

David Revisits Thailand 2022

David Revisits Thailand 2022

I last visited Thailand in December 2021. At the time travel was limited and you had to take a test before and on arrival. This time it was much more open. I arrived in Phuket, showed my Thailand pass and vaccination certificates, and collected my case – all within 45 minutes.

Travel is Back – But Keep Your Expectations Realistic

Confidence to travel again has certainly returned as Covid cases around the world continue to drop. Virtually every country (or at least those Chic Locations feature) has relaxed its entry protocols and whilst there are still a few in-destination regulations these are...

Passport Renewal – Don’t Get Caught Out

Even though the passport office say they can cope with demand at the moment, I have still been told to expect at least 4 /6 weeks for a new passport to arrive. As travel demand increases the longer it will take unless you want to pay extra for fast track…

Maldives – Welcome Back

Maldives – Welcome Back

The UK Government, both the Home office and the Foreign and Commonwealth office, have now approved travel to the Maldives. This is fantastic news and comes at exactly the right time for winter escapism.

Many islands in the Caribbean have been placed on the Green Watch list. This means the islands will have their vaccination success monitored by the UK Government on a weekly basis…

Phuket Sandbox Promotion

Phuket Sandbox Promotion

Although the Sandbox scheme has improved week on week since its introduction in early July, and most of the southern resorts have a high vaccination rate and low cases, the UK Government has chosen to look at the entire country and made it all on the UK Red traffic light NO GO area.

It is highly probably the resort island of Phuket will re-open to international travellers from the first week of July 2021. We have a few ideas…

New Normal Pragmatism

New Normal Pragmatism

The present traffic like system for travel introduced by the UK Government was maybe well-intentioned but has probably lead to even more confusion. So this is an attempt to clarify, in deliberately simplistic terms.

Click for Booking Terms, Price Guides & Flight Information

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers.
Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.

For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.

For the Mediterranean & Canary IslandsCaribbeanArabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.

*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding airfare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.

Please refer to Travel Advice on our home page or look at www.fco.gov.uk as the Foreign Office may have issued specific destination information on safety and terrorism.

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, some hotels may have changed their facilities. Standard descriptions like distance from airport or town remain consistent as does the overall resort style. However, the number of restaurants, swimming pools, if more than one, are by example flexible and can change depending on occupancy and circumstances. Spa facilities, in particular, may be changed depending on local and international suggestions.

If your holiday decision is based on any specific facility please let us know at the time of booking so we can ascertain availability from the hotel. Please note, such information may be accurate at the time given but could be subject to change. In these times it would be prudent to be open-minded and flexible on such matters.

The situation on destination entry seems to vary month to month, or in some cases week to week or even day-to-day. For updated information please refer to the UK Government travel advice https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. This will provide you with information on entry requirements including COVID-19 testing and any quarantine stipulations,  especially on return to the UK. As you will know this information is constantly changing, frequently at short notice as evidenced by our own Government actions.
