First of all our condolences and sympathy go out to all those who were directly impacted by the heinous attacks on several churches and hotels over the Easter celebration.
We continue to monitor the situation on an hourly/daily basis, taking advice from various sources within the country. We are also influenced by the advice of the UK Foreign Office travel advisory and this can be read in full https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/sri-lanka UPDATE ISSUED 16.00 April 25 . SEE IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE .
In common with most other UK tour operators, none of our clients on the island at the time were directly impacted by the atrocities and all are safe.
Our paramount concern is the safety of our clients. We are not linked to any country through our name or committed financial obligations and can be totally impartial on our advice. Ultimately we will take final advice from the UK Foreign Office but we are also in regular discussions with many others on the island , including those without a vested interest in tourism .
Sri Lanka has been one of our most successful destinations over the last two years, with excellent client satisfaction. Whilst we anticipate there may be some apprehension to travel to the island , we can assure you that the Sri Lanka destination tourism partners, hotels and ground operators working in tandem with the government in introducing additional measures to ensure safety and allay these concerns. These will logically & reassuringly include more high profile policing .
We expect that within a few months Sri Lanka will be just as popular as ever, with clients from around the world defiantly refusing to be beaten by any cowardly act. We have experienced this in so many countries including the UK (London and Manchester) and we have no reason to think Sri Lanka will be any different. In many ways Sri Lanka could be safer now than before , due to the security measure now in place .
Of course, we fully understand your concerns, especially if you are travelling in the near future, and should you wish to discuss this further please speak to either Marie-Hélène (MH) or David at Chic Locations.
UPDATE 25 April . The UK Foreign Office has now issued an Only Travel if Essential advice . We are taking this as being applicable essentially to those about to travel within the next 4 weeks . Individual notification in such cases will be sent , together with the full refund or alternative travel options . For those due to travel beyond early June we will review the travel advice on a weekly basis ( at least ) as we are confident this will be a short term directive and will be revised however if you have any immediate concerns please call or email David@chiclocations.com .
