Capella Ubud is Safari Style Chic Camp Elegance, in a Dramatic Romantic Setting.
Ubud has so many luxurious hotels so it takes something truly unique to stand out. That is exactly what Capella Ubud has achieved.
Capella opened in July 2018 to instant acclaim from happy guests and envious rivals. It is truly incredible on so many different levels. The location set high on a forest-clad hill overlooking the sacred Wos River is superb. The accommodation is proudly designed by Bill Bensley, renowned throughout Asia for his quirky innovation. Capella is close to the small authentic village of Keliki and 20 minutes drive out of Ubud. And of course, the team handpicked for their gracious delivery of service and highly personalised attention.
Transfer time from the airport or the beach resorts in the peninsular will be approx. 80 minutes. Try to make it during daylight hours. The scenic contrasts as you leave the more developed resorts and climb high into the mountains is jaw-dropping at virtually every turn.
The camp is essentially adult-focused. Children under 6 years are not accepted.
Capella Ubud has 22 individually styled One Bedroom Tents. All are spacious with over 173sqm of total living space.
Each tent has a private seawater pool and lounge deck and air-conditioned interior, of course. You have an en-suite bathroom and in and out shower. Each is furnished to reflect both Indonesian history and Dutch colonial influence. Just close your eyes and drift back in time.
You have a choice of:
Rice Terrace Tents, Rainforest Tents, River Tents (located close to the river so require some mobility in access).
The Keliki Tents are the most expensive and command probably the very best view of the total resort estate.
There are an additional Two Bedroom Tents with over 217sqm of total living space that features one king and one twin-bedded room. They have a private pool and mirror the same facilities as the One Bedroom Tents.
Main freshwater swimming pool
Several dining options with the emphasis on Indonesian specialities with a European twist
Gymnasium where group sessions of yoga are arranged (private lessons can be arranged on request)
Boutique
A host of tailored local experiences around the local area including mountain bikes, guided treks and village exploration
Capella Ubud is truly outstanding. Expensive of course, but that will also form part of the appeal. The setting is amazing. Totally romantic, so be sure to come with someone special.
In common with several properties in Ubud, Capella has been designed to take full advantage of the hillside setting. Wake up naturally and just watch the colours of nature unfold before you.
Children over 6 years are accepted, although there are no specific facilities and the resort is essentially couples focused.
It might not be ideal for those with mobility issues.
As Ubud is set high into the hills, expect the temperatures to be lower than on the coast. This is particularly noticeable early morning/late evening. Suggested clothing would be light natural fabrics. Casual elegance with Ecco style flat-soled shoes more practical than high-heeled Jimmy Choo’s. Don’t forget a warm jumper for the early mornings.
Chic Locations feature a number of Bill Bensley inspired resorts, camps and hotels. These include The Siam in Bangkok, Shinta Mani Wild in Cambodia, as well as Bensley Collection in Siam Reap and Rosewood in Luang Prabang.
Marie-Helene from Chic was one of the first operators in the UK invited to experience the camp and would be delighted to discuss her stay with you.
The Truth About Earthquakes & Volcanoes
Indonesia is located within the dramatically named “Ring of Fire”. As such, earthquakes are almost a daily occurrence in some parts of the archipelago. Anything less than five on the Richter scale of earthquakes hardly breaks a stride locally and is barely reported. There are 130 active volcanoes. Some have been docile for years, others seem to grumble more frequently. So in reality, you can have natural a disturbance, but the chances of it actually happening to you are rare. A little tremble quite probably, anything more serious unlikely. Neither earthquakes or volcanic eruptions are seasonal.

+ About Bali – Indonesia
In our view, Bali Indonesia is one of the most romantic islands in the world. Add instant culture & an almost spiritual atmosphere. Despite increased tourism, once away from the busier resorts you still have a wonderful sense of tradition.

Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid-summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
For the Mediterranean & Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arabia and the Indian Ocean (except Sri Lanka) price guides generally include airfare and transfers.
*For Sri Lanka and Far East we show a per person per night hotel guide, excluding airfare, as arrangements tend to be individually tailored multi-centre itineraries.

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, some hotels may have changed their facilities. Standard descriptions like distance from airport or town remain consistent as does the overall resort style. However, the number of restaurants, swimming pools, if more than one, are by example flexible and can change depending on occupancy and circumstances. Spa facilities, in particular, may be changed depending on local and international suggestions.
If your holiday decision is based on any specific facility please let us know at the time of booking so we can ascertain availability from the hotel. Please note, such information may be accurate at the time given but could be subject to change. In these times it would be prudent to be open-minded and flexible on such matters.
The situation on destination entry seems to vary month to month, or in some cases week to week or even day-to-day. This will provide you with information on entry requirements including COVID-19 testing and any quarantine stipulations, especially on return to the UK.
