The Barracks is a colonial-themed boutique hotel on a lovely resort island.
The Barracks was originally built in 1904 as the barracks for the British army. Much of the original architecture and style remain, including the old parade ground, now a manicured lawn. Rather skillfully enhanced and reopened as a hotel in late 2019.
Located on the separate resort island of Sentosa of of Singapore. 35 minutes from the international airport, using the highway and resort bridge. Taxi to the China Town / Orchard Road shopping areas will take about 15 minutes. A cable car also operates to a large shopping centre or you have a bus shuttle service.
The Barracks has 40 rooms and Suites. All are designed with a sense of history.
You have a choice of:
Upper floor with balcony or ground floor with patio and pool access.
There are also a few One-bedroom Suites with separate living area.
- Main swimming pool
- Lounge where complimentary cocktails are served nightly from 6 to 8 pm
- In addition, all of the facilities of the neighbouring & larger Outpost Hotel are available to you, including rooftop pool and selection of restaurants with sign back facilities
The Barracks is rather charming and unique.
A sense of military precision and attention to detail. An oasis of calm amongst the resort island ambience of Sentosa with its nature & water parks themed activities including MGM film studios, skywalks, numerous dining options and a surprisingly good selection of beaches. The nearest beach is about 6 minutes walk along the waterfront. A shuttle bus and monorail operates around the island.
The Barracks appeals mainly to adult travellers. Younger children are tolerated rather than attracted – a better choice for families would be the neighbouring Outpost Hotel.

Singapore offers a fantastic selection of restaurants and night-life, as well as parks, museums, and on Sentosa Island, beaches.
The skyline is maybe more North American at first glance but, like Hong Kong, go below the obvious and it has some traditional and busy little street markets that offer a perfect contrast to the numerous shopping malls. In our view, Singapore is the very best introduction to the region for the first-time Asia traveller. Plan to spend at least 2 clear days as there is so much to see.

For example, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May – June level and about 50% more in Asia.
