Description & Location
One of two Malaysian states located on the separate island of Borneo, just under 2 hours flight east from Kuala Lumpur. Situated on the north-west corner of the island, our Sarawak Experience Tour is wonderfully eco-influenced, and the real luxury comes in the unique adventure opportunities, rather than the quality of the accommodation. Although the hotels we mention below are pleasant and well located.
The state capital Kuching is small and charming, easy to explore and is a good base for visiting the Semenggoh Orang Utan sanctuary, and a traditional Long House village.
Our suggested itinerary is detailed below, although your Sarawak Experience can easily be modified to suit your personal requirements.
Day One – Arrive Kuching after a flight from KL. Transfer to the Grand Margherita Hotel in Kuching (named after the old Dutch fort, not the drink!). Afternoon at leisure for city exploring. We particularly suggest the Sarawak museum for a quick and concise history of the region. Maybe even a few minutes at the Cat Museum (Kuching is cat in the Malay language). For dinner we suggest “Bla-Bla-Bla” Restaurant offering Asian/Malay specialities, certainly one of the best in the region, and just a few minutes walk from your hotel.
Day Two – Check out of the hotel and take the short one hour transfer to the Semenggoh Orang Utan Reserve. Following a short jungle trek, you should be able to see an extended family of Orang Utan in their natural forest habitat. A wonderful experience. Continue onto the Annah Rais Longhouse, where you sample traditional Bidayuh tribe hospitality, which fortunately no longer extends to head hunting. Return via Kuching, but continue for an extra hour along the north coast to the resort area of Damai, where we particularly suggest the attractive Damai Puri hotel. Modern and contemporary, with high-quality accommodation, two swimming pools (one for families), and a huge expansion of cove beach.
Day Three/Four – At Leisure at the Damai Puri. We particularly suggest an optional visit to the Sarawak cultural village, just a few minutes away from your hotel. And then an evening cruise to the Sanubong Wildlife reserve, where you can usually see the Proboscis Monkey, and as well as the pink eyes of river crocodiles, and then end the evening looking at dozens of fireflies lighting up the bushes of the mangrove.
Day Four – Return flight to KL, or for those with more time, fly for one hour across the northern coastline to the other Malaysian State of Sabah where your adventures can continue.
A 4 night extention from KL will start at £688 per person

For example Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia.
