Journeys through Thailand
With a total diversity of scenery and cultures, depending, on the region, multi centre touring options within Thailand are popular. There are excellent air links between most of the major cities, as well as good roads. The following are just a few ideas and each can be easily modified to suit your personal requirements.
Bangkok (3nights) & Chiang Rai (3 nights) & Chiang Mai (2 nights) & Beach (5 nights).
The most popular combination. The bustle and instant excitement of Bangkok, the eco adventure of Chiang Rai in the Golden Triangle, the temples and the exciting night markets in Chiang Mai, and then end with a few nights, or more at one of the beach resorts (Phuket is best in our winter, Samui in our summer, whilst both Hua Hin and Koh Samet have more consistent year round climates).
You start in Bangkok, where you have a full day of sightseeing including the Grand Palace and the famous floating market. You then fly up to Chiang Rai, in the Golden Triangle, with your hotel located facing both Myanmar and Laos. A day and half of sightseeing, including the three countries in one day tour, and half day to see some of the more hill tribes. We have left time for you to spend some time with the elephants, who have a separate compound within your hotel. You then continue by road over the high mountain pass, incredibly scenic with more opportunities to see the various hill tribes before arriving in Chiang Mai. A long 7 hour drive but highly recommended.
A half tour of the city, including the ornate Du Suthep temple with superb views of the city. Time at leisure for exploring this busy but totally charming riverside city. Remember to visit the night market, even if you do not buy anything, an interesting experience.
You then fly to your beach for a few days of total relaxation. There are direct flights from Chiang Mai to Samui and Phuket, via Bangkok to Krabi. For Koh Samet and Hua Hin you fly to Bangkok and then road transfer.
Suggested hotels on tour – Vie, Bangkok – Anantara, Chiang Rai – U Hotel Chiang Mai.
As the tour is operated on a private basis, with driver and guide in each place, departures are daily, with timings modified day by day to suit your convenience.
Rivers and Temples
Bangkok (2 nights) & River Kwai (2 night) & Sukhothai (1night) & Chiang Mai (3 nights), with Golden Triangle or beach option.
An extremely interesting tour, with a combination of known and established points of interest and several areas that are emerging but still have a truly authentic flavour.
You start your journey in Bangkok with 2 nights.A full day of sightseeing including the floating market and Grand Palace, and a short trip of Bangkok’s intricate system of klongs (water ways).
Leave Bangkok and head west, changing the city suburbs for the totally rural countryside that surrounds the provincial city of Kanchanaburi (80 miles from Bangkok), the base for visiting the River Kwai, including the infamous Death Railway built by British and Australian prisoners during World War Two. Ride on the railway. Overnight in a Kanchaanaburi city U hotel or for something really different, stay on a simple Raft style Lodge on the river for 2 nights for something highly original.
Continue by road to Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam, the original name of Thailand. Known for its beautiful temples dating back hundreds of years, with a tranquil riverside location. Continue by road to Sukhothai, the capital of Siam in the 13th century and known as The Dawn of Happiness. Travel outside the city to the park of Si Satchanalai where you will find incredible statues, probably the most interesting within Thailand. You can either walk or take a bicycle. Overnight in one of Sukhothai’s charming boutique hotels.
Continue by air on the short flight to Chiang Mai, where you will be based for 3 nights. On the 2nd day a full day tour will be arranged to included the city and temples, and in the afternoon the opportunity for elephant trekking or river rafting.
You then have the option of travel further north to the Golden Triangle region (we particularly suggest the idea of a few hours on the river before continuing by road) or you can fly south to one of the beach resorts.
Suggested hotels – Vie – Bangkok Royal U Hotel River Kwai Resort Sukhothai Heritage – Sukhothai U Hotel – Chiang Mai.
The Andaman Experience
The Racha, Koh Racha (5 nights) & Zeavloa Phi Phi (4 nights) & Tubkaak Krabi (5 nights) or Pimalai Koh Lanta (5 nights).
A chance to visit three island resorts in the Andaman Sea, with travel between the resorts by speedboat. Each island or resort is totally different, yet there is a constant theme of escapism. Our suggestion would be to fly from Bangkok to Phuket, transfer by road from the north to the port jetty in the south and continue by speedboat to The Racha Resort.
After 5 nights return to Phuket with road transfer to the jetty on the east coast for the 40 minute speedboat transfer to Phi Phi.
You have a choice of either continuing by speedboat to Krabi (30 minutes) or on the Koh Lanta (50 minutes).
You then fly back direct to Bangkok from Krabi.
