I think I first visited Ubud about 30 years ago, when it was an artist village. It used to be said about the locals that from the womb to the tomb they were naturally gifted. As such it attracted artists from other countries, particularly Europe who were enthralled by the scenery, the amazing culture and the instant romance.
Of course it has become much more developed since then, but it is still incredibly inspirational, and on your first visit it will be a succession of Wow’s! I think I have been here over 20 times and it still gets the romantic juices going – even if I am travelling alone I hasten to add! The Romance of Ubud is undeniable.
Most of the hotels are small, elegant and stylish, taking full advantage of the tropical scenery.
In my mind, to come to Bali and not have at least a night in Ubud would be a crime. I appreciate that many of the new clients visiting Bali for the first time, and attracted by the mega luxury of the beach hotels, will find even a day up in the hills difficult to comprehend – just as a night in the desert is unappealing without shopping malls – but I do find this place truly incredible. Beyond Wonderful.
Just about to leave now to return to the beach area, this time Seminyak which is the cuisine centre of Bali.
