On yet another tour of Thailand, I will highlight what we at Chic consider to be great hotels of Khao Lak.
As you will have seen, my first stop in Khao Lak was to revisit the new La Vela hotel which we shall be including within our resort selection soon. I then visited the sister hotels of La Vela, the rather funky Casa La Flora and the more mainstream La Flora.
After than I arrived at the Sarojin. I have know the owners since the opening in 2004, and shared their grief as the hotel was destroyed by the tsunami just a few days after the first guests arrived. I am proud that I was one of the first people to support their rebuilding and contributed to the success and high esteem the hotel has now achieved. Not just with Chic Locations, but I think every operator working with the hotel will claim an almost total 100% guest satisfaction rating. We just love the place with a passion that probably goes way beyond the commercial. Definitely one of the great hotels of Khao Lak.
I then went to see Mai Hotel Khao Lak, and the newly opened adjacent sister Mai Holiday Hotel. As you will see from the picture here, Mai Holiday was one of the most complete family fun hotels, with huge water slide, children fun galleon and a selection of easy going fast food restaurants.
And then I ended the visits with seeing the MANATHAI Hotel. This is one of our lowest priced hotels in Thailand, and delivers fantastic value for the quality on offer. If the priority is price, attractive rooms and superb beach, it ticks all the boxes.
I have to say I was blessed with great weather. Extremely hot and sunny with flat calm seas. This was a total contract to the same time last year when I spent several depressing days splashing through puddles of rain. I hope it lasts as I now start to visit several off shore island near Phuket, and being bounced up and down on a small speedboat is not fun after the novelty of the first few minutes.
I then found a bar, with a good guitarist / singer. I went inside and noted the stage was set up for a full band. I enquired with the girl behind the bar, “He is good. When do the rest of the band come on stage?” She looked at me deadpan and just said “high season “, which is early December. I decided it was time to get back to the comfort of the Sarojin.
Off to a local market tomorrow before I head back to Phuket, and travel the entire length of the island from north to south before catching a speedboat to Koh Racha.
