Came across a very good article on Ubud Bali and thought I should add my take on it. Read Katie’s excellent tips here:
To me, if you are travelling to Bali then you simply must include Ubud. It can be easily visited as a day trip from most of the beach resorts, it takes about 90 minutes each way and the scenery en-route is just spectacular. But at Chic Locations, we always try to persuade our clients to stay at least overnight, usually two or three nights. Yes it has become much busier and developed in the last 10 years, but the atmosphere and the sense of living culture is still prevalent.
It is one of the most romantic places in the world. I have often said that if Ubud does not stir your romantic juices then you are probably dead!
My suggestion would be to go for a resort on the outskirts of the village – preferably a villa pool resort with either Kayumanis or Samaya being amongst my personal favourites – as they just capture the style perfectly.
The restaurant scene is constantly improving, with options of Balinese street food (I frequently try this but maybe not the day prior to travelling!), very well priced traditional restaurants and then top class fine dining in places like Mosaic – heavy on the wallet but a real sense of occasion.
Truly a magical place with so many amazing things to do. As Katie mentions in her post, one of the best ways to explore Ubud is to simply get lost. There will be plenty to seduce the senses along the way.
