Sabah and Sarawak offer authentic eco-adventures, monkeys and fireflies, numerous indigenous jungle tribes and superb beaches
Both Malaysian states within the large separate island of Borneo. The two states are located on the north cost, with the separate country of Brunei sandwiched in between. The large landmass to the south is the Indonesian state of Kalimantan. Flying time from KL south to Kuching, the capital of Sarawak is about 90 minutes. Kota Kinabalu, capital of Sabah, just over 2 hours.
The appeal of both are the tremendous wildlife and eco-focused adventures, mountains, dense jungles, superb beaches and a proud tribal heritage that is very different from peninsular Malaysia.
Both states are still in their tourism infancy, although Sabah now has several top class international hotels, of which we feature three: Tanjung Aru, Rasa Ria and the boutique Bunga Raya on the offshore Gayana Island. Kota Kinabalu is now developing fast, with surprisingly good modern shopping malls and some restaurant options.
Sarawak moves at an even slower pace. Some superb adventures both on land and river. Hotel options tend to be adequate, but the luxury comes in the thrill of the destination.
As Borneo has tall mountains and deep green forests, it also attracts rain throughout the year. The most settled months tend to be April through to October.

All price guides are Per Person Sharing Double Room (Entry level), based on travel between May and/or June when prices are generally at their lowest and include promotional offers.
Supplements will probably apply at other times, particularly mid summer in the Med, and for rooms and/or transfers arranged for single travellers.
For example Caribbean and Indian Ocean prices for winter can be approximately double the May - June level and about 50% more in Asia.
